Rescue Air for Firefighters

All firefighters will find these three articles extremely informative and useful. After reading them, they will be equipped to take immediate action to secure this lifesaving equipment for their communities. In this landmark training guide, Joseph Rush and Jack Murphy describe the components and functions of firefighter air replenishment systems (FARS), which firefighters often refer to as “standpipes for air.” The large number of firefighters needed to supply continuous air cylinder replacement often impedes firefighter operations in mid- and high-rises and other complex structures. Also, the lack of available air supply often restricts firefighters to support operations. FARS address supply and staffing issues by providing lifesaving air-filling stations in critical locations inside complex structures. This guide explains the systems and provides a model code for adoption.
