Forbidden Planet used to be a rather one of a kind shop, and "Trekkies" really loved it for its Star Trek and other items...now there seem to be a whole lot of places like it. I know there is a big store with the same kind of material over in the Garment District, a big place...

Review from G. S.
Flew into town for a wedding, so the hubs and I decided to check out some of Manhattan's comic book stores. This store is always highly recommended from fans and creators alike and now I know why. They really have a well organized setup, everything you can ask for; toys, trades and yes, yes....mini-comics!
Honestly, a lot of stores stock the same DC/Marvel stuff, I get it, that's your bread and butter. But indie comics, zines, odd-sized books, usually lack in most mainstream stores. Forbidden Planet did not disappoint. We picked up a handful cause hey, we love to support. And the staff was helpful, no one was breathing down our necks or nagging.
Glad we stopped by. Keep doing what you're doing FP! -

Cute store, has a Captain America shield as the door handle. I stopped in to browse. It has your usual collection of comics, mangas, and comic-based toys, lunchboxes.
They sell Ugly dolls of all sizes here. Just seems like a nice, clean comic bookstore with high ceilings. -

I've been coming to Forbidden Planet since I was a kid when they were located diagonally across Broadway. In those days, you would find me here every Wednesday when the new releases came out and I would spend my hard-earned minimum wages on 6 different Spider-man titles (what do you need that many for?) and just about every Marvel title and a few DC titles. I even met & got George Takei to sign his autobiography here (before he came out of the closet)! Does it get any geekier than that?
I don't collect comics anymore, but still stop in occasionally to check out what's current. Lately, I've been collecting comic art & Japanese animé statues and toys, which they have aplenty along with a lot of rare and limited editions. A lot of this stuff is available online, but there's no comparison to seeing it up close & personal. With so many comic book stores come & gone, it's good to see the Planet still in business and still in the same ol' neighborhood.Listed in: The Yelp 100 Challenge
