OK, Back to Neighborhood Eateries...Down Home Cuisine at Brother Jimmy's

Classic Southern Barbecue Place on Lexington Avenue near Kips Bay...and yes, they have side dishes such as Hush Puppies and Mac and Cheese.

Crowded as hell on weekends..seems like a very convivial place...only thing that would bother me are those TV screens I see inside (BIG)

Also with small outdoor seating area...not a bad option if the weather is OK and you will trade noise from inside the place for street noise, which is not bad here.

Well, on to reviews...which avergage out at 3 Stars...as one man notes, "not much here to interest a vegetarian" ( well, I know they have mac and cheese if that is any consolation)

Visited here not too long ago with a friend and a friend of hers. It's on the loud side, thanks to speakers blasting live music, so it can be a little hard to hear the rest of your party at times.

Anyway, I ordered a delicious Press'd Bourbon BBQ Brisket sandwich, which had Bourbon BBQ sauce, gouda cheese and onion straws on it, served on Texas toast. The meat was cut pretty thick, yet it wasn't rough to eat. It was sauced on the dry side, which I think is great because you can always add more sauce if you want, but it's kind of tough to subtract sauce. Would get again. I got it with a side of Brussels sprouts, which was a great decision.

Beer choice was good; glad to see that Dogfish Head 60 and 90 minute were available in draft and bottle, respectively.

The staff was kind enough to change a nearby television to the ballgame we wanted to watch, which was nice.

All in all, it was a good time, and I'd go again.

Only three and a half stars?! This has to be one of the better restaurants/bars I've been to in New York City in a very, very long time!

You know what a struggle it can be to find a bar with great food and an awesome vibe? Well, Brother Jimmy's has all of that going on. I recently joined the NYC Skeeball League, and we play at this location every Wednesday night. The people here, both customers and staff, are so chill - the bartender, especially! He was the only one running the bar downstairs, and he was managing drink and food orders flawlessly. I was hesitant about getting food, but the BBQ Chicken Quesadilla was absolutely delicious! And you can hate if you want, but their Frickles (Fried Pickles), are effing great! Apparently they make a pretty mean grilled cheese with onion, which is what I plan on getting this week.

I can't wait to go back on Wednesday and enjoy food, drinks, good company, and a mean game of skeeball!

    DO NOT RECOMMEND BBQ CHICKEN!

DECOR: Quite a cool looking, old styled restaurant- a southern appeal!

FOOD: The most pathetic BBQ chicken that I have ever had. The chicken was not well seasoned or cooked. It was very dry and meaty. I could barely eat it and did not even want to pay a single penny for this piece of crap. The brussels sprouts were less fried and more burnt. My colleagues had ordered BBQ Steak and Pulled Pork and they had no complains with their dishes.

SERVICE: Very friendly atmosphere. On Wednesday whole day they give 25% discount to any one carrying a southern ID. We got a discount too!

PRICE: Not too pricey. Our total that includes 5 entrees and 1 dessert was approx $100 (with 25% discount).

Not much to offer a vegetarian, of course (though I do remember quite vividly that they had the best pulled pork in NYC, including Virgils), but these guys have my favorite fries!
