Firefighter gear etc. in Village--official FDNY shop

Boutique on Greenwich Avenue in the Village has all sorts of NYC Fire Department paraphenalia..

People really like the firemen in NY, they are definitely local heroes..

Also people like the paraphenalia..women as well as men

When I was in Grad Film School I had a friend who desperately wanted a fireman's slicker (water repellent  coat)...his girl friend, who knew full well how much this guy liked to have clothing that would make him stand out and which he thought was "neat" teased him about affectations like this...

Wait a second, there wasn't a fireman among the "Village People" was there? No, I don't think so...not quite the right type somehow...anyway, firefighters are seen as basically benevolent types, not threatening ones or something....

JUST out of curiosity let me see if there any reviews of this place...yes, Yelp gives it definite thumbs up with reviews--it  is done in cooperation with the FDNY and you can find stuff from a firehouse in your neighborhood...

If you want to support your local fire station or NYPD, then The Original Firestore is where you want to be. This is the official retailer for your FDNY, NYPD, etc apparel and gear. I decided to stop by here one day to check out some gear from my local firehouse.

Here, they literally have t-shirts from every single firehouse in the city: http://www.nyfirestore.c…

From Hell's Kitchen all the way down to Chinatown, you can find a shirt for your local crew. Well if that's the case, then I might as get one or two shirts! I ended up buying one of the Midtown shirts, and it ran me just a little over $20. Not feeling t-shirts? Well then you can find things such as patches, aprons, sweatshirts, and more. Anything that's remotely NYPD, FDNY related will be sold here.

The staff of the Original Firestore is pretty nice. The lady that was working the register had a friendly conversation with me for about 5 minutes about my gripes living right next to the fire station. She was extremely kind, and even threw in a free patch with my purchase.

New York is a special city. The prestige that comes with working for the NYPD and FDNY is something to be proud of. These purchases that we make here shows our appreciation for what they do on a daily basis, even though it's just something as small as wearing a t-shirt. Stop by here next time you're in the area and snag something up. If anything, the shirts look damn cool!

This store sells some officially licensed FDNY stuff, but it is the same sort you'll find everywhere else.

Most of the FDNY firehouse t-shirts are not what you would get if you went to a firehouse and picked up a shirt there. The Ladder 8 Ghostbusters shirt they have is nothing like what I actually got at Ladder 8, plus I got to see Ladder 8's impressive collections of melted phones and the sign from Ghostbusters II in the apparatus bay.

Some of the patches they sell are not authentic as they tend to omit FDNY on them and replace them with "NYC FIRE" or "NY" for licensing reasons.

If you want to support your local firehouse, go there and buy a shirt or patch. You'll definitely get the real deal and wind up spending less money. When you buy a shirt or patch at your local firehouse you help out that firehouse directly and you meet some amazing people.

If you are looking for trinkets for the tourist trade, this is your spot.

The Original Firestore is an awesome place to see everything FDNY.  From baby items to jackets worn by the FDNY, there's always something here you've never seen before and really want to have.  The owners are amazing, and have wonderful stories about local, national and international firemen who always stop to find the latest in off duty gear.  If you know a boy between the ages of 0-100, there is no more special gift than an item from The Original Firestore on Greenwich Avenue.

For New York fire department or NYPD buffs this is a great place to shop.  It has individual fire house tee shirts that you can't get anywhere else.  And even the designs you can get in the regular tourist shops are printed on a better quality tee shirt here. Its a NYC institution that been in the same family for more than 20 years. The store was selling FDNY and NYPD designs way before the city began its own licensing program. When I was there I saw Annie, a co-owner, taking a group picture of visiting firefighters from the UK for the stores Facebook page.
It seems a big part of their business comes from their web site. It's well worth a special trip if you want a unique New York gift...and a required stop for anyone with police or firemen in their family.
