Pio Pio...Peruvian Food, chain, on East 34th Street

If you like decent chain restaurant food--in this case Peruvian accented-- Pio Pio is the kind of place you would probably like for lunch or anytime for that matter...

Diners I saw all looked very happy...

Not a big deal, just a decent place to eat

I went with 2 girlfriends and tried to conquer the Matador Combo. We devoured the chicken but the tostones were okay. We also ordered the Calamari which we loved!

The chicken was soooo fine and juicy.

Of course when you have several dishes for only 3 girls there isn't much space left on their small tables but considering the space they have to work with, kudos to them for maximizing the space.

We went on a Tuesday late afternoon and was happily surprised by the lack of customers dining. Great service.

No frills, good food and great sangria.

A lot smaller than its Hell's Kitchen counterpart, with a much more limited menu. Still, the chicken seems to be the usual high standard and the empanadas are especially delicious. The ceviche was okay but nothing special - not the most fresh ingredients.

The service was super slow though, but I guess that's to be expected at such a busy venue. They never brought waters for us (but fine as we had sangria) and took forever to come get our order and later in bringing our check.

I have visited a Pio Pio once in Orlando. On my visit back home I decided to order from this Pio Pio. I ordered the Matador combo and had it delivered. Delivery was fast and the individual who made the delivery was very pleasant.

The beans were a bit too salty but tasty nonetheless. The yellow rice and avocado salad were really good. I used the green sauce on my salad thinking it was the salad dressing and immediately felt the spicy kick. I'm not a big fan of spicy foods but the sauce was delicious enough that I continued to use it as my salad dressing. The tostones were really big but were a bit soggy so it's probably not a good idea to have these delivered. I had ordered a side of sweet plantains but they were cut way too thick that they were still a bit raw in the middle, so this item was a waste. I didn't taste the chicken or the hot dog with French fries but my friend said they tasted good.

Overall, it was a decent meal.
