FDNY Promotes 26 Members To New Roles, Including Two New Deputy Commissioners

    On Thursday, April 7, 2016, the Department held a promotion ceremony for 26 members.  One Deputy Chief was promoted to the rank of Deputy Assistant Chief, one Deputy Chief was promoted to Division Chief, 4 Captains were promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief and 18 Captains were promoted to the rank of Battalion Chief.
FDNY Marks 60th Anniversary of the Third Avenue Collapse in the Bronx with Plaqu

    On Monday, April 04, 2016, Commissioner Nigro, FDNY members and families gathered in the Bronx to mark the 60th Anniversary of the Third Avenue Collapse, which took the lives of six Firefighters in 1956.  This fire was the greatest loss of Firefighters at a single incident in the Bronx in the Department’s 150-year history.

    Thursday, March 31, FDNY celebrated Women’s History month at FDNY Headquarters in Brooklyn. National Women’s History Month provided the opportunity to formally recognize the contributions of outstanding women among the more than 16,000 uniformed and civilian members of the Fire Department, as well as to acknowledge and thank the entire complement of women who serve this agency.

    The FDNY, in partnership with the FDNY Foundation, is proud to invite all first responders to the 4th annual Medical Special Operations Conference (MSOC). This conference serves as an important venue for Military, Federal, State and Local medical operators and planners to share experiences.
FDNY Holds Graduation Ceremony For 118 EMTs

    Wednesday, March 30, FDNY held a graduation ceremony for 118 EMTs in Brooklyn. Over more than 10 weeks at EMS Academy, these previously certified EMTs were trained in FDNY operations and procedures, and further updated in all aspects of their job as Emergency Medical Technicians: CPR; patient medical and trauma assessments; oxygen and ventilation skills; management of hypotension and fractures; spinal immobilization and emergency childbirth; hazardous materials and mass casualty incident training; emergency vehicle operation; and EMS operations preparedness, including vehicle extrication and medical simulation training.
