Crews made an interior attack, but were forced out due to heavy fire conditions. Fire knocked from the exterior and then crews re-entered an located a victim in a second floor bedroom. The victim was handed over to EMS and transported to the hospital were she was pronounced dead. Three firefighters suffered minor burns.       Tweet   FIREFIGHTER DRAGGED BY HOSE LINE / APPARATUS IN FLORIDA (VIDEO)  Thursday, January 28, 2016   A Hillsborough County (Florida) Firefighter had a significant CLOSE CALL last night, as he helped his clean up after a fire.Apparently while helping an apparatus back up, a Firefighter got tangled up in hose line, was dragged to the ground, and then somehow dragged by the moving apparatus. The firefighter yelled "stop" several times, clearly in pain, and then yelled to the truck to move forward so he could escape. Fortunately the Firefighter was conscious and alert after the incident, but was but on a stretcher and then taken to the hospital for his injuries, which appeared to be to his legs. KHIYP's. VIDEO: Here is the video more ]        Tweet   TX FF INJURED AT HOUSE FIRE  Thursday, January 28, 2016   A firefighter was injured while he battled a blaze Wednesday night at a house in northwest Harris County. The fire broke out about 10:30 p.m. at the single-story home on Yaupon Mist Drive near Greenhouse, said Mike Shinn, a spokesman for the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department. Shinn said the firefighter had smoke inhalation. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was evaluated. His condition was not released. No other injuries were reported. A man and his grandchild were in the home at the time of the fire. The man spotted the fire and grabbed his grandchild, and they rushed outside to safety. When firefighters arrived they saw heavy flames and smoke on the roof of a garage at the home. The flames spread to the house. A sports utility vehicle parked in the driveway also burned. [ more ]       Tweet   2 IFD FFs, 1 EMT STRUCK BY DRUNK DRIVER AT CRASH SCENE  TheIndyChannel Video  Thursday, January 28, 2016   A woman was arrested on charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated after she drove her car into an accident scene, injuring two firefighters and one EMT Wednesday night.The woman has been identified as Kaitlyn Michelle Carlson, 23. The firefighters and EMT were on the scene of a two car crash near Southport Road and Gray Road on the city's south side when a woman drove over a hill and hit the back of one of the cars involved in the crash. Two firefighters, who were under the hood of the car trying to disconnect the battery, were thrown from the car. An EMT, who was working on a patient in one of the wrecked cars, suffered a minor injury. Brian Hedrick, a 15 year IFD veteran, was thrown approximately 10 feet in the air. He is in good condition and will stay at the hospital overnight for observation. Firefighter Corey VanWyk, who graduated from the IFD Recruit Academy last month, was treated and released. <... [ more ]       Tweet   FIRE TRUCK CRASH UPDATE: NO MECHANICAL PROBLEMS FOUND IN TEXAS DAIRY QUEEN CRASH  Thursday, January 28, 2016   Farmersville police said Wednesday there were no mechanical issues that attributed to the crash of a fire truck into a Dairy Queen last week. Two people were injured Feb. 20 when Greenville Fire-Rescue Unit 4 slammed into the restaurant in the 200 block of Highway 380 East in Farmersville. The truck had just been serviced by Siddons-Martin Emergency Group in Denton, and the company was returning the vehicle to the fire station when the crash occurred. The truck was not being driven by a firefighter at the time of the crash. Representatives from the City of Greenville, Dairy Queen and Siddons-Martin met and evaluated the mechanical operation of the fire engine and found no mechanical issues that could have attributed to the accident. The black box data was also reviewed and shows no specific malfunctions, according to Farmersville police. [ more ]       Tweet   GARBAGE TRUCK EXPLODES IN JERSEY - RIPS HOLE IN HOUSE  NJ.com Video  Wednesday, January 27, 2016   A garbage truck exploded after catching fire on a street in Hamilton Tuesday and blasted a hole in the front of a nearby house, though no injuries were immediately reported.A total of four houses were damaged in the 2 p.m. explosion. One the truck's four natural gas tanks exploded in the fire and rocketed into the front of Doris Pattley's home on Fitzrandolph Street, just off Lalor Street, officials said. Hamilton firefighters Leonard Pope and Steve Lykes had just pulled Pattley from the rear of her home when the truck exploded, officials said. Two other houses suffered broken windows and melted siding. Pattley said she was in her living room when the truck exploded. "And I ran into the kitchen." "I saw big pieces of steel and stuff like that come flying into my kitchen," Pattley said. [ more ]       Tweet   Texas Firefighters cover colleague's shifts during Leukemia battle  WOWT News  Wednesday, January 27, 2016   It's back to work this week for firefighter Ben Miller, but he won't be fighting fires just yet.Miller has been off the job for the past six months after being diagnosed with Leukemia. During his absence, his fellow firefighters covered his shifts so he could continue earning a paycheck while focusing on treatment. As he continues to recover, Miller will be working on a modified light-duty work plan, which includes catching up on policy changes and other administrative duties. Miller says he's been overwhelmed by the support of his fire family. "Its just a true blessing, everything that these folks at the fire department have done for me. Its gotten us through this last six months with a lot less worry," said Miller. "I can focus a lot more on rehabilitation, which is why I'm able to come back as early as I have, so it's absolutely amazing. " Miller hopes to be back out fighting fires by June.       Tweet   Connecticut Firefighter Injured in the Line of Duty (that killed fellow Firefighter) Returns to Duty  Wednesday, January 27, 2016   It’s been nearly 1 1/2 years since a fire killed Hartford firefighter Kevin Bell on October 7, 2014, and injured one of his fellow firefighters, Jason Martinez.Martinez suffered burns to more than 10 percent of his body in the Blue Hills Avenue blaze, and was in critical condition for weeks at Bridgeport Hospital’s burn unit. A report conducted after the fire to investigate what occurred determined that Martinez and his unit were searching the front of the house for hot spots when a hose stream struck Bell in the face. Martinez said the hose stream knocked off his helmet and face piece and briefly made him unconscious. He reported, “It was extremely hot and his head and eyes were burning.” The report states that Martinez lost consciousness again and tumbled out of a second-floor window of the house. [ more ]       Tweet   2 FFs INJURED AT OMAHA FUNERAL HOME FIRE  Tuesday, January 26, 2016   Two firefighters were seriously injured early Tuesday while battling a tough blaze at a west Omaha funeral chapel. The fire at Heafey-Heafey-Hoffmann-Dworak-Cutler Funeral Chapel, 7805 West Center Road, was reported at 3:25 a.m. Click Here! A third person, possibly an employee at the funeral chapel, also suffered serious injuries. On approach to the scene, firefighters reported smoke and flames and declared a working fire. A second alarm was called around 3:40 a.m. after the front of the facility collapsed, according to Douglas County emergency 911 dispatchers. Five minutes later, a dispatcher said, "Attention: All personnel at 7805 West Center Road, evacuate, evacuate, evacuate.’’ The injured were taken to Nebraska Medical Center.         Tweet   3 INJURED IN FL APPARATUS CRASH  WPTV Video  Tuesday, January 26, 2016   Three people were injured following a multi-vehicle accident involving a fire engine, according to a West Palm Beach Fire Rescue spokesperson.Officials say a fire engine was hit by a taxi after the taxi got into an accident with another vehicle. The accident happened around 11 a.m. in the intersection of Florida Mango and Belvedere Road. Firefighters extricated the taxi driver from the vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. A woman and a child from a passenger vehicle were transported to with minor injuries. No firefighters sustained injuries.       Tweet   4 TX FFs INJURED BY FALLING DEBRIS AT FIRE  Tuesday, January 26, 2016   Officials say four San Angelo firefighters were taken to the hospital after part of a house that was on fire collapsed on them.Assistant Fire Chief Scott Farris said it’s not yet clear what caused the Saturday afternoon fire. He says no one was living in the home, which was under construction. Farris told the newspaper Saturday that the firefighters were struck by a falling "veneer structure." The newspaper reports that details about the conditions of the firefighters and the extent of their injuries weren't available Saturday evening. Messages left by The Associated Press to the San Angelo fire department on Sunday were not immediately returned.       Tweet   NJ FF SUFFERS SMOKE INHALATION AT FIRE  Tuesday, January 26, 2016   Fire broke out at approximately 2:13 p.m. Monday in a multi-dwelling house at 127 West Second Ave., where 15 occupants were evacuated by Roselle Police.Battalion Chef Jeff Breden reported one injury to a volunteer firefighter. He was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. The fire began in two rooms on the first floor and was quickly extinguished. This picture shows firefighters doing their best to get to a house fire. It's a huge risk but one they determined was worth it because if they don't get there - no one else can.
