Firefighters in Mecklenburg County, NC trained to remember today on the anniversary of the Black Sunday fire. A donation in honor of Joey allowed them to build the props and supply the equipment needed for a bailout drill. What did your department do to remember today? http://www.joeydfoundation.org/cornelius-lemley-fire-rescu…/

We also honor Brendan Cawley, Jeff Cool, and Eugene Stolowski who bravely live with the effects of this tragedy every day. Please keep all of these men and their families close to your hearts today.

Can you imagine being forced to jump 5 stories into the alley below? Well, 6 brave members of the FDNY did just that in the Bronx on January 23, 2005. Two firemen did not survive the jump, and the other 4 were critically injured. One of those 4 (my son) died in 2011, as a result of those injuries. This day came to be known as Black Sunday, because a Brooklyn firefighter also lost his life that day in a collapse. As the 11th anniversary of Black Sunday approaches, please remember these 7 men in your thoughts and prayers. Three of these men may still be alive but that does not mean they are free from emotional and physical pain on a daily basis.

We received a Christmas card from our good friend Captain Bob Farrell at Fire Hooks Unlimited with a special surprise for the Foundation. Along with his holiday greetings, Bob sent a generous gift of $10,000 to help the Lt. Joseph P. DiBernardo Memorial Foundation continue to train and equip firefighters.
