Sometimes the voice of reason steps in just before a dumb mistake, other times it waits — here are two tales of both:
About 40 firefighters responded to a two-story home. Flames started in the basement, where there was extensive fire, smoke and water damage.
Was this decision about denying the firefighters something because it is bad for the department or because it is something firefighters want?
Officials called it a "tough day" having to explain the situation, but said the candidates were professional and took the news graciously.
They claim there's still racism within the department and that it won't change unless Commissioner Jose Santiago leaves.
FDNY Battalion Chief: "When I looked at this mangled car, I just shook my head and I said I can't believe that this guy is alive and speaking."
The Board of Public Safety took action after the fire chief purchased a fire truck without proper authorization.
