and with the ASPCA so far Uptown, this is the place people come to to get rescue animals.
I have never heard anybody have one bad thing to say about Bide-a-Wee, but then, there are always a few sour apples. Some of them may show up in this Yelp review...no, all raves completely!

My fiance and I came here yesterday to adopt a cat. We were looking for a lovable cat that could ride solo because the last time my fiance had two cats, he recounted the tales of their fights (one of them broke their jaw at one point). We filled out an application, talked about it for weeks, and finally gathered everything together and just went. The process was quite easy. The person who helped us, Alex, was very thorough and knowledgable. Mr. Whitman (now Jasper) was the first cat we met and we fell in love. He is the sweetest and most personable cat, and he's had no problems adjusting to our home thus far.
Alex also made sure to check out with our references to ensure that we lived where we do, if we were cat people, and if the cat would be welcomed into a good home. I am impressed by the wonderful service and general care the organization has for animals. If it weren't too far as a vet's office, I'd go there, but I'm not sure our new cat would like riding on the subway! -

Very helpful and open to new people. My wife and I were able to see some of the dogs up for adoption even though we informed them we were not ready to adopt at the moment. The conditions were very well maintained for the canines and cats. Although I really do not like cats, the environment created by the excellent up keep and staff made me appreciate the animal's personalities. I thought I would never adopt from a shelter, but my wife and I are seriously considering because of the excellent nature of this establishment.
I am hoping to volunteer some of my time in the near future! -

What a great experience! I had been wanting a dog for a while, and had some discouraging results from other rescues. I stumbled on Bideawee while looking at a list of NYC animal rescues, and remembered hearing great things about it. I went to their website and immediately liked Elmo, a Poodle/Shitzu Mix, and filled out an application. I went to see him that night and was met with really friendly and helpful people. They called me references the next morning, and I was approved for adoption that afternoon. I immediately went and got him, and was given a free voucher to use their vet services in the next six months, along with a adoption packet that includes all his vet records, which will be super helpful. I absolutely recommend them to anyone looking to adopt a pet. -

Bideawee is , hands down, the greatest animal shelter i have ever set foot in. We adopted our hilariously awesome cat Harry there 2 years ago. The cats and dogs are happy and well loved and cared for. Its a cheerful, colorful happy place for all the animals. While visiting other animal shelters in the city can ruin your day with the sadness and despair, Bideawee is the opposite. My boyfriend and i left feeling hopeful and comforted that there is even a place like Bideawee at all. If every shelter could be like Bideawee, the world would be a better place. I was blown away by the happy, comfortable cats in the cat rooms.
Bideawee was also extremely helpful to me the time I came across an abandoned house cat who needed a place to go. I love this place and the people who work there. If you go there to adopt a cat or a dog you will love it too. You won't be sorry!!! -

I have adopted my two beautiful kittens from Bidawee. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and the whole process went great! Me and my bf got to go into the room where kittens were hanging out and get to know and interact with the kittens. It was extremely tough to choose 2 out of all the healthy and happy looking kittens, but we settled with two similar sized, different color ones that appealed to us. They are our angels now! Though they run around the house at night which keeps us up...but who can be mad at such adorable creatures?
I had tried another animal rescue agency before Bidawee, and the process they used was to bring two cats that they thought would be good match over to my apartment to test them out...one of them had terrible diarrhea and had to be kept in the my bathroom for two days. They were sweet cats, but the sick one was so thin and frail looking...I don't think she was ready to be adopted yet. I got worried and called the foster mom, as I had to go to work the next day, leaving the poor sick cat alone in the bathroom. The lady came to pick them both up, which was very nice of her. But then I decided that I wanted more control over what kind of cat I am adopting. I never had a chance to find out what the cat looked like or what their conditions/history was.
I am very glad I decided to try Bidawee! I recommend to anyone who would like to adopt cats or dogs. -

This week I rescued a stray cat. Milania is a beautiful young adult with such a sweet personality! (surprising for a stray). She quickly became the object of my love and affection and I could not let her go back into the streets. After being turned away from multiple no kill shelters, I found Bideawee.
I didn't know I had to make an appointment/call in advance. When I arrived they were getting ready to close for the day. However, the team quickly assessed Milania and accepted her with open arms. It was heart wrenching to let her go, but she is in a safe place now. If you are surrendering a pet that you've owned, there is a $100.00 fee. However, because Milania was a stray they accepted a donation of any amount (which I was more than happy to give).
The facility was clean and everyone seemed to be doing their jobs well. As I waited, volunteers and staff were walking the dogs while the cats were playing in two big rooms by the front desk. The staff explained the process Milania would go through (examinations, tests, spay, etc) before going up for adoption.
My intention is not to encourage anyone and everyone who finds a stray animal to send them to Bideawee. All shelters fill up quickly and are short on funds, especially no-kill shelters. I am just happy to know that a place like this exists with people who care. If you are looking to donate to a shelter, I definitely recommend Bideawee. If you are looking to adopt, I definitely recommend Bideawee as well!
Thank you Bideawee for treating me and Milania with respect.
And I promise to call in advance next time. -

I highly recommend Bideawee to anyone looking for a pet. The dogs are well cared for and live in a clean, happy environment. What impressed me the most is the people working there really care about the animals. They know all of the dogs and their unique personalities by name. They also take the adoption process seriously to ensure the animals are adopted by responsible owners.
If you are looking to adopt a pet, the Bideawee is a great resource for information & FAQ's. You can view available pets online at http://www.bideawee.org/… . Adoption application forms are also available online. Be prepared with 2 references and your landlord's phone number if you rent. Adoption fee is $150 for adult dogs, $225 for puppies under the age of 6 months.
I am so happy I adopted my amazingly smart and handsome doggy from Bideawee! In addition, free treats, free bags of premium dog food, Petco coupons, and vet coupons were some of the perks I received when I adopted. Thank you Bideawee! -

I am SO happy to have an affordable and nice vet in Manhattan. I have been twice with my pooch and very happy both times.
The first was for a growth she had on her elbow. I had been to a vet before that told me I should have it reviewed under anesthesia. The vet at Bideawee knew what the growth likely was when looking at it, told me it was benign and wouldn't need to be removed. A biopsy confirmed what the vet thought and it the drama was finished without my dog having surgery. YAY.
The second time was for routine vaccines and I was happy with the price and overall services. The vet and vet tech deal extremely well with my anxious pooch.
Overall, the staff here is extremely nice, friendly, and calm. They are everything I would hope for a vet and more. The receptionist even gave my pooch a free Bideawee bandana because she's so cute! -

My husband and I were looking for a cat to adopt this past weekend and was amazed at the way this place housed their cats. I went to several other shelters where the poor cats were locked up in small cages all day, but Bideawee had several different rooms with all the cats climbing up on cat perches, trees, scratching posts, and snuggling in beds. It was awesome! They had them separated by different factors, and the ones that did not interact well with other cats were in their cages observing the other cats.
You can even go on their website and have a "play date" with the cats by controlling the toys in the cat rooms from your computer! You can watch them through a video surveillance and might be able to get to know their personality that way too.
The girl who helped us was a really knowledgeable, down to earth girl named, Eve, who we really nice. Although we didn't find a cat to fit our personality there, I highly recommend you check out their location so you can see the difference yourself. -

I recommend bideawee to anyone who is looking for the perfect pet. the staff does an excellent job matching you with the right pet. i adopted a little kitten from them who i love dearly. i was looking for a shy, snuggly, not so wild kitten, and they had just the right one for me and my other cat. everyone is happy in my household and they love each other.
they do a great job finding perfect homes for their animals and make sure their animals dont go to just anyone. i wish every shelter and rescue treated the adoption process like bideawee does
i also use the vetting services they have. all of their vets are wonderful!
thank you bideawee for talking such good care of my little kitten and taking her in off the streets. -

I love Bideawee's Animal Hospital. They have such caring doctors and staff that really ease a paranoid cat owner's worries. I adopted my first kitty from the shelter 6 months ago and brought her in for a checkup at Bideawee right away. The vet not only gave her a thorough physical, she also taught me many basics like how to brush her teeth and trim her nails. There was one time when I noticed some balding spots on my cat's head and not knowing any better, panicked. I called them frantically and they calmly told me to just send some photos over and the doctor called me right back to tell me everything looked normal. Last week my cat got an eye infection and they were able to give me an appointment the next day - they even had late evening hours which made it so much easier for me since I work full time. You can tell everyone at Bideawee truly loves animals and they are very gentle in their care. Also, they are not overpriced!!
I intend to bring my cat Boomer here for many years to come :) -

This place is all the way on 1st ave...quite far from the trains but I couldnt have had a better experience anywhere else. I went to some dingy animal clinic last week for an emergency visit in Elmhurst, and it left me feeling insecure about my pup's health & broke.
Bidaewee called me the day before to confirm the appointment & make sure I knew of the location. Upon arrival, the first floor is a shelter and the vet services are on the 2nd floor. The waiting room is so clean & inviting, with coffee for the humans & even a water bowl for the pets. The staff members are all sweet, friendly, professional, attentive. They even called the animal clinic I went to to have paperwork faxed without hesitiation. They made copies of all my pup's records & made me feel comfortable. The vet tech then took my pup's weight & asked why I was there (he had a cold), symptoms, took his temperature, gave me info about heartworm meds.
The vet came in & assessed my pup. He was informative, friendly, professional, and took time to really care about his health without trying to rob me. He gave me a sample of heartworm meds, and info about flea prevention. He even printed me a recipe for home cooked meals for the pup and advised on his diet. I really felt like he really cared about him and wanted the best for both of us. He said the cold should go away on its own but if it doesnt I can always just come back to pick up meds.
In the end, the visit was $75 plus a fecal test for $59. Completely affordable, and I didn't feel ripped off. Way less than what I was expecting to pay. And when I left there was a huge bin of free samples of food/booklets/even shampoo for dogs & cats. I am making this place my vet of choice.
