Lawrence -- The New York legislative session is up and running, and NARAL Pro-Choice New York is as committed as ever to advocating for the reproductive rights and health of New Yorkers.
We are already in the halls of the Capitol talking to legislators about the Comprehensive Contraception Coverage Act. This bill would ensure that you get the birth control you need at no cost, and would allow you to get 12 months of pills at a time! Â
Support access to birth control by signing our petition, urging your elected representatives to sign onto the bill.Â
The Assembly is already poised to pass some familiar bills: The Reproductive Services Act would enshrine in state law Roe v. Wade’s protections for a woman’s right to choose. The Boss Bill would prohibit employers from discriminating on the basis of employees’ personal reproductive health care decisions. The Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act (GENDA) would grant critical civil rights protections to transgender and gender-non-conforming individuals. All of these pieces of legislation have previously failed to pass in the Senate, and we’re working hard to ensure their passage in 2016.
On Wednesday, Gov. Cuomo will deliver his State of the State address and lay out his legislative agenda and budget proposals for 2016. We look forward to hearing about his priorities and hope that he plans to make passing reproductive rights and health legislation a priority.Â
It’s a new year, but we’re up against some of the same battles. With your continued support, we stand committed to advocating for New Yorkers, working with lawmakers, and doing all we can to ensure we end this session proud of the reproductive rights victories we’ve achieved. We hope you’ll join us, and support the Comprehensive Contraception Coverage Act. Click here to sign our petition letting your representatives know you want better access to birth control!
For Choice, Andrea Miller President NARAL Pro-Choice New York
