Today marks Holocaust Memorial day and we’re championing a new book that documents the bravery of Jewish firefighters in London during the Second World War.
A third of Britain's 330,000 Jewish community lived in London's East End at the start of the war, and as Hitler’s bombs rained down, they served in great numbers often as firefighters and firewatchers. A new book by Martin Sugarman explains the huge sacrifice Jewish firefighters made during the blitz, bringing their stori...

We remember leading fireman Stephen Maynard who died while tackling a ship fire at Limehouse Basin 36 years ago today. As we celebrate our 150 year anniversary we must never forget the sacrifice that firefighters have given to the service. Here's Borough Commander Steve Dudeney's account of the tragic fire http://bit.ly/1Vl3fwO

London Fire Brigade added 3 new photos to the album: Training at the Tower of London — in London, United Kingdom.
January 25 at 11:45am
Today we staged a major training exercise at the Tower of London to test out emergency response procedures in case of any future emergency there. Eight fire engines and over 70 firefighters and officers were joined by colleagues from London Ambulance Service, Met Police and staff from the Tower itself. What an incredible venue for a training exercise, and what a valuable opportunity for all to test emergency response procedures.
Did you know white goods including fridges, freezers, dishwashers, washing machines and tumble dryers account for over 300 fires each year? At 89 of these incidents, the cause was a fault in the appliance or its electrical supply.
Thousands of consumers are still missing out on product safety warnings because they fail to register their fridges, freezers and washing machines, according to the most recent research. So we’re urging Londoners to register their appliances onlin...

We remember Station Officer Jack Fort-Wells and Firefighter Dick Stocking from the Clerkenwell Fire Station who died on this day in 1958 at Smithfield Market blaze. In total 1,700 firefighters tackled the fire over three days. The fire led to breathing apparatus changes and is one of the most tragic and momentous incident in our 150 year history.
More than 65 firefighters worked through the night tackling a fire at a house under refurbishment in Whetstone.
The whole of the roof, part of which collapsed was alight and half of the first floor was also ablaze, but fortunately no-one was injured in the incident.
Hackney Borough Commander Steve Dudeney praised crews work at the scene and said firefighters worked hard to contain the fire, tackling it from all sides of the property including from above using an aerial ladder...

As part of our 150th anniversary celebrations we invited This Morning correspondent Claudia-Liza down to West Norwood fire station, where she had a taste of life as a firefighter, joining blue watch as they carried out a drill.
Her report also looked at how the role of women at London Fire Brigade has changed over the last 150 years and she even got the chance to operate the water jets on our fire boat outside the This Morning studio.
Watch how she got on here: http://www.itv.com/hub/this-morning/1a1960a5212
Where were you on the day a whale visited London? A decade ago today one of the most unusual incidents in our 150 year history happened when a female Northern Bottlenose whale was discovered swimming in the River Thames near the Brigade’s former HQ. We recall the remarkable day.
