In this campaign ad released Jan. 13, the star of AETV's "Duck Dynasty," Phil Robertson, endorses Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz. (Ted Cruz)
Ted Cruz crouches in a duck blind, clad head to toe in camouflage, his face slathered with black paint.
The scene plays out in a new ad from Cruz's presidential campaign touting the endorsement of Phil Robertson, the star of TV's "Duck Dynasty." The campaign announced Wednesday that Robertson is backing Cruz.
According to Fox News, Cruz had dinner at Robertson's house in West Monroe, La., Sunday night and the two went duck hunting. Cruz swung through Louisiana on Monday, headlining a rally in Baton Rouge and private fundraisers around the state.
"My qualifications for president of the United States are rather narrow. Is he or she godly, does he or she love us, can he or she do the job, and finally, would they kill a duck and put him in a pot and make him a good duck gumbo?" Robertson asks in the ad.
"I've looked at the candidates, Ted Cruz is my man. He fits the bill. He's godly, he loves us, he's the man for the job, and he will go duck hunting because today we're going," Robertson said, as the ad cuts to photos of them shooting.
Robertson spoke at a Capitol Hill rally against the Iranian nuclear deal that Cruz and Donald Trump headlined in September.
The television star was briefly suspended from the A&E show in 2013 after making inflammatory comments about gay and black people.
