Ever since the "Great Recession" starting in 2008 Fresno Fire, CA has been slashed.
Much needed equipment, training and personnel was eliminated in the budget as well as imposed contracts / forced pay concessions from the rank and file to recover from previous poor financial mistakes / decisions.

Brotherhood of Fire would like to pay special tribute to “Zero”, a long-serving dog in the K-9 unit in the Camden County Police Department, New Jersey who died last Monday.
He was a much loved and respected member of the Camden County Police Department who every night he went out he took one for the team.
Zero was more than a K9 officer; he was an ambassador for the Camden County Police Department to the citizens of Camden, especially the children.

A horse was euthanized early Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, after it was burned in a barn fire west of Highway 99 in Fresno.
In this Fresno Fire Department helmet-cam video, the horse can be seen in flames running from the barn where the fire broke out.
The cause of the barn fire has not been determined. There was improper wiring and a space heater detected at the scene, but it’s not known which one may have sparked the fire. The fire started just before 1 a.m.
The horse was covered in a blanket, was saddled and had blinders on. The blanket and the saddle were on fire when the horse ran off the property and went into a field down the street.
Fresno firefighters were able to put out the flames on the horse, but it was too badly hurt to save. After consulting with the Central California Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, a Fresno County sheriff's deputy put the horse down.
I decided to post this video because all too often firefighters discuss the importance of fire safety. This is yet another tragic example of why fire departments throughout the country and around the world continue to try and educate the public on the dangers of fire and what they can do to prevent them.
I also posted as reminder to anyone who might watch this, that firefighters ROUTINELY see stuff like this on a regular basis.
If this video serves anything it’s to remind everyone that firefighters do a very dangerous and visually treacherous job… they answer the call when everything is at its worse and do what is needed to calm the chaos.
Stay safe Brothers and Sisters.
Watch each other’s 6… because after all, if we’re not here for each other… who will be there to save the rescuer?

Zero was more than a K9 officer; he was an ambassador for the Camden County Police Department to the citizens of Camden, especially the children.
Zero and his partner / handler Lt. Zsakhiem James helped build bonds with Camden’s residents by doing countless demonstrations together at schools, parks and community events.
Everywhere he went in the city, people, especially kids recognized him.
In 2014, Zero and his handler James broke the state record for career K9 arrests.
Zero’s most memorable arrest was in 2010 when he sniffed out a suspect who had allegedly stabbed someone in the neck with scissors and was hiding under insulation in a ceiling crawl space inside a home.
Zero located him and the suspect attempted to fight him off, who then ran out of the house before Zero tackled him.
Zero also used his impressive skills to locate missing children and find wandering Alzheimer’s patients.
After every apprehension, he was rewarded with his favorite treat from McDonald’s… Chicken McNuggets.
Rest in peace, Zero

What is “The Honor Flag”?
Shortly after the September 11, 2001 attacks, a flag was gifted to Chris Heisler by the Texas House of Representatives.
Like many Americans, Chris Heisler felt compelled to take action during a horrific time for the United States, and with this flag in tow, he set out for Ground Zero.
Along the way, Heisler helped to organize one of the longest police motorcades in the history of the United States, bound for Ground Zero bringing many tokens of support together with other agencies, to our nation's Heroes.
Since September 2001, the United States Honor Flag has paid tribute to those who have lost their lives in the line of duty protecting our lives, our homes and our country, and also those who currently serve our communities and our nation.
The Honor Network was founded on the conviction that every person who is committed in service to our communities and country deserves the support of every single American, and that an increase in American patriotism is vital in keeping our great nation united.
As The Honor Network President and Co-Founder, Chris Heisler is charged with upholding the organization's mission to remind Americans of the sacrifices made by the men and women in uniform; a subject with which he has first-hand knowledge.
Where has the flag been?
A few of the many places the United States Honor Flag has been to honor our Heroes include:
o NASA Shuttle STS-135 Atlantis
o Funerals for our Public Safety and Military Heroes
o National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Memorial
o National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial
o State Memorials
o Carnegie Hall
o U.S. Capitol
o State Capitols
o The Pentagon
o Presidential Libraries
o US Combat Theaters
o VA Hospitals
o USS Lexington
o Seattle Space Needle
o Various NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA and other sporting events
Chris is currently in stable condition at Porter Adventist Hospital located in the metro Denver, Colo., area.
A news release says he is surrounded by family members he recovers and that he hopes to return home to Texas in the coming days.
Heisler was vacationing at a family cabin in Grand Lake, Colo., when the stroke occurred.
U.S. Honor Flag events have been canceled though January 2016.
Chris was quoted recently on his facebook page…
“Every breath is a gift.
This will not waiver or impact my commitment.
Humbled, thankful, and renewed.
We have only just begun.
Little bit more drag on the left, but my heart is full and my mind remains alert.”
* Please say a special prayer and/or leave a comment for well-wishes and Godspeed healing and rehabilitation.
Thanks Chris for teaching us about Honor and Respect.
Godspeed healing Brother.

!['It is with much sadness and regret to inform you that another Firefighter was killed early this morning in the line of duty.
Shortly after the initial attack on the house fire there was a catastrophic event and tragically 28 year-old Firefighter Patrick Wolterman from the Hamilton Fire Department in Ohio died after falling through the floor and into the basement.
"We've had a tragedy here in Hamilton this morning," Fire Chief Steve Dawson said. "The firefighters arrived on scene and found heavy smoke coming from the structure. They proceeded to make entry into the structure, and once inside, one of the firefighters fell through the first floor into the basement."
Upon arrival crews responding to the fire call found heavy smoke coming from three sides of the house. Firefighters including Wolterman moved into the house.
Fellow firefighters located and rescued Wolterman from the basement and performed CPR, but was pronounced dead at Fort Hamilton Hospital.
Other units on scene extinguished the fire.
Initial reports were that people were inside the home when the fire broke out, but relatives who said the couple who for decades have lived in the home were away on vacation.
Patrick Wolterman's death is Hamilton Fire Department's first in the line of duty since 1971.
He was hired in April, 2015 after several years of experience with other local departments and was recently married.
Rest in Peace Brother
Please say a prayer, moment of silence or whatever else you do to pay honor and respect.
