COMMUNITY MEETING: A update on the Broadmeadows tyre fire and the impact on local community will be held TODAY at 2pm.
The meeting will be held at Hume Global Learning Centre, 1093 Pascoe Vale Road, Broadmeadows and will provide up to date information on the fire.

MFB has DOWNGRADED the Watch and Act to an Advice message.
Emergency services are attending to a fire involving a stockpile of tyres in the area of Maygar Boulevard, Maygar Boulevard BROADMEADOWS and making significant progress.
The fire is now under control.

Good morning Melbourne,
Firefighters have fought hard overnight to knock down the tyre fire in Broadmeadows. About sixty firefighters remained on scene throughout the night. 
Smoke and flames are down and the crews are now using machinery to pull the stacks of tyres apart so they can tackle any hot spots remaining.

Emergency Services continue to work on containing the fire at the tyre stockpile at Maygar Boulevard, Broadmeadows. MFB and CFA crews have been working hard to extinguish the fire along with the help of aircraft. Due to the complexity of the fire it may possibly burn for several days. Crews will remain on scene until safe.

Crews are likely to remain on scene for the next 24 to 36 hours.
The large smoke plume is being monitored by scientific advisors and EPA Victoria are currently managing water run-off and working to limit the impact on the environment.

Fireys are putting 10,000 litres of water a minute on the Broadmeadows tyre fire, which continues to burn at the Maygar Boulevard property.

Jessica Gallagher Great work guys. What about pets? Our dog is in my brother's backyard with his dog in Reservoir, should we bring them both to our place (down near Dandenong) to be safe? Or is the smoke clearing? He has a bird outside too, should they bring her inside?

MFB (Metropolitan Fire and Emergency Services Board) Hi Jessica, if you are concerned about pets outdoors in the affected areas it is advisable to bring them indoors out of the smoke. Firefighters are continuing to work to extinguish the fire.

Residents nearby the Broadmeadows tyre fire are reminded to stay indoors, close all windows and vents and turn off air conditioners.

MFB (Metropolitan Fire and Emergency Services Board) The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) Victoria has deployed its mobile air monitoring equipment to the Broadmeadows tyre fire.
EPA officers at the scene are also providing advice about how best to contain and prevent water and foams used from fire fighting activities entering local waterways.
