The family of a Chicago firefighter killed on December 14, 2015 has filed suit against the owners of the warehouse where he died.
Daniel Capuano, 42, a 16 year veteran, died when he fell down an open elevator shaft in the vacant building. According to City building officials building’s owners never obtained permits to the remove the elevator. Investigations into the matter are ongoing but the floor Capuano was on was reportedly obscured by smoke. Capuano has recently passed the lieutenant’s exam.
The suit was filed in Cook County Court naming Anilroshi, LLC, as the defendant owner of the warehouse. The suit alleges wrong death, negligence, violations of building and safety codes that contributed the Capuano’s death.
