The Crisis of Human Trafficking: An introduction to LifeWay Network with Lima James, MSW
When: January 19th, 2017 12PM-2PM Where: 115 West 27th St., 4th Fl. New York, NY 10001
LifeWay Network is one of only two organizations in the New York Metro area providing safe housing for women survivors of human trafficking. What sets LifeWay’s Safe Housing Program apart is its community living model. It goes beyond offering shelter by welcoming each woman into a supportive, caring environment that helps them recover from their trauma, regain their sense of self-worth, and enables them to move from isolation towards reclaiming their independence.
The LifeWay Network Education Program seeks to raise awareness, deepen understanding, and engage others around the issue of human trafficking. We provide human trafficking presentations for the general public, networking, and participate in conferences on human trafficking topics. All presentations teach what human trafficking is, how to spot possible signs of human trafficking, provides information about the national hotline for trafficking, and offers suggestions for next steps.
Lima James is the Education Training Coordinator at LifeWay Network where she works to increase community awareness on human trafficking as an essential first step to confronting this crime against men, women, and children. Lima is responsible for the development and delivery of education and training curriculum for various audiences--including schools, community groups, faith groups, and service providers. Prior to coming to LifeWay, Lima worked with the New York State Office of Children and Family Services where she helped draft a statewide policy on human trafficking.
