NEW HAVEN FF SUFFERS BACK INJURY AT FIRE 

Tuesday, December 22, 2015   A firefighter was injured while battling a two-alarm blaze at a Goffe Terrace house Monday night.The firefighter hurt his back during the fire and was transported to the hospital.

The fire at 144 Goffe Terrace was reported at 6:53 p.m., Chief Allyn Wright said, and started on the third floor towards the rear of the home. No one was inside at the time of the fire.

The fire was contained to the one house and surrounding homes were evacuated. The house sustained heavy damage to the roof and third floor.

Neighbors lined the street behind yellow caution tape as over a dozen firefighters remained on scene. The gas company arrived around 8 p.m. to turn off power to the house.
     

 

Veteran Firefighter Dies In Fire Department Vehicle Crash-North Carolina 

Tuesday, December 22, 2015   We regret to pass on to you the delayed news that Firefighter Sidney "Sid" Winer, 92 years old, of the No. 7 Township Fire Rescue (New Bern, North Carolina) died in the Line of Duty following an on duty crash. Firefighter Winer was involved in that crash on October 20th, 2015, while riding in department's Ford F150 while returning from picking up equipment.  Another vehicle pulled out directly in front of the department's truck. Firefighter Winer sustained serious fractures to both feet as a result of the crash which totaled the department's truck.  As a result of the injuries he sustained, Firefighter Winer's right leg was amputated just below the knee on December 3rd, 2015.  Firefighter Winer was in the rehabilitation center at Carolina East Medical Center when he succumbed to his injuries on December, 15th. Services were held last weekend.

CLOSE CALL IN CHINA - FIREFIGHTER ON FIRE

Tuesday, December 22, 2015   A video of a firefighter jumping out of the window of a burning second-floor apartment in Jianli county, Hubei Province, has gone viral on Chinese social media. In the video, the firefighter is seen standing by the window attempting to arrange a line that he could grab to slide down, as the flames continue to grow intense. However, as his clothes caught fire, he was left with little option but to jump off the window holding on to the fire hose. Fortunately, he survived the incident, only suffering minor injuries to his hands.
     

 

FIREFIGHTER DIES AT MUSEUM FIRE IN SAO PAULO, BRAZIL, S.A. 

Tuesday, December 22, 2015   A Firefighter in São Paulo (Brazil, South America) died in the Line of Duty. A multi alarm fire at the Portuguese Language Museum, located in a 19th century building resulted in the Firefighter going down, with one report indicating he suffered burns. Despite lifesaving attempts he died in the Line of Duty. As you will see in the below links, there we very heavy fire conditions.
The fallen Firefighter was identified as Ronaldo Pereira da Cruz, a Firefighter who actually worked at the museum as a part of their brigade. More than 100 Firefighters operated at the museum fire, which was closed at the time of the fire.

FDNY ENGINE CRASH IN BROOKLYN 

Tuesday, December 22, 2015   Five people were injured, including a 9-year-old girl, when a fire engine collided with an SUV in Brooklyn, flipping the car Sunday afternoon, police said.

The FDNY’s Engine 248 was on its way to a fire when it collided with a grey Nissan Xterra at New York and Snyder Aves. in East Flatbush around 12:30 p.m., authorities said.

The SUV was sent rolling through the intersection before it came to a stop near on its passenger side.

The four women inside the Nissan were taken to Kings County Hospital, officials said. Two of them were listed in serious condition while the other two suffered minor injuries.

A firefighter also suffered minor injuries from the collision, a Fire Department spokesman said.

The engine had been called to respond to a space-heater fire at a home on E. 45th Street, near Clarendon Road, but it wasn’t immediately clear if it was en route to the blaze when it crashed, an FDNY spokesman said.

Companies were working the fire when it sounds like a Firefighter ran out of air in the basement. Make sure you have your volume up on this video when you are watching it. Evacuation tones are set off. The video was posted by shane neckel and no description was given. We hope an pray all Firefighters are Ok.

     

 

TEXAS FIREFIGHTER DIES IN THE LINE OF DUTY - COLLAPSES DURING TRAINING

Monday, December 21, 2015   We regret to pass on to you that Navarro County (Texas-SE of Dallas, near Corsicana) Emergency Services District #1 had a Firefighter die in the Line of Duty yesterday, Saturday 12/19/2015.
Firefighter Stacy Crawford, 47, was involved in training exercises at the fire station in Powell, TX when Stacy collapsed. Resuscitation efforts sadly failed. Stacy has been a member of various fire departments for 20+ years. Stacy is survived by his wife, Darla, and son.

UPDATE: FIREFIGHTER, 19, DIES IN THE LINE OF DUTY AT DWELLING FIRE - NEW YORK 

Sunday, December 20, 2015   Updated information indicates that Mount Marion (Ulster Co, NY) Fire Captain Jack Rose died in the Line of Duty in that Centerville Fire District dwelling fire last evening.

While exactly what went wrong last night is obviously still not investigated or public, they were operating at that chimney fire and it reportedly extended within the basement of the dwelling. While operating, it was determined that Captain Rose was not accounted for. Crews went in to find him and he was found very quickly, was rescued, treated and transported. Extreme life saving attempts were made by his fellow Firefighters, EMS crews and the hospital crew-including the reported use of cyanokits - but all efforts were unfortunately not successful.


Captain Rose was a Saugerties resident and a 2014 graduate of John A. Coleman Catholic High School in the town of Ulster. He reportedly worked for Hudson Valley Mobile Life EMS in addition to his role at the fire department. More t... [ more ]
     

 

FIREFIGHTER DIES IN THE LINE OF DUTY - NEW YORK STATE 

Sunday, December 20, 2015   We regret to pass on to you that 19 year old volunteer Firefighter from the Mount Marion FD (Ulster County, north of NYC, south of Albany) was killed in the Line of Duty last night.The Mount Marion Firefighter died in the Line of Duty in what was initially reported as a chimney fire in the Centerville Fire District.
Centerville Fire responded to a call at 1859 hours at 11 Fel Qui Road along with mutual aid from Mount Marion. Firefighters had fire in the basement of the dwelling and while operating, something went wrong, MAYDAY was transmitted and the Mount Marion Firefighter was rescued/removed from the dwelling. Life saving attempts were unsuccessful at scene, while transportation and at the hospital in Kingston.

FF STRUCK/PINNED WHEN FIXING TRAILER ALONG HIGHWAY 

Sunday, December 20, 2015    A Santa Fe County firefighter was seriously injured in a roadside collision Friday afternoon while attempting to reattach a trailer that had become unhitched from his vehicle, but city and county officials say he is expected to survive.

Santa Fe Police Department Deputy Chief John Schaerfl said the firefighter was driving a county SUV and pulling a trailer northbound on Cerrillos Road between Herrera Drive and Jaguar Drive. The road has a slight incline in this area, and along the hill, the trailer became unhitched, the deputy chief said. The firefighter stopped his vehicle, turned on his emergency lights and attempted to reattach the trailer.




That’s when another vehicle collided with the trailer, pinning the firefighter between the trailer and his vehicle. In the process, he snapped his femur and suffered other unspecified injuries.


The firefighter was rushed to the Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center.

FIREFIGHTER DOWN IN ULSTER COUNTY, NEW YORK-FIREFIGHTER REPORTED TO BE VERY CRITICAL 

Sunday, December 20, 2015   We are getting numerous reports of a young firefighter down at a structural fire in Ulster County, NY (NE of NYC). Initial reports are that there was some sort of structural collapse and the firefighter went down. The firefighter was removed in very critical condition. Updates to follow. Keep them in your prayers.
     

 

FATAL CRASH INVOLVING FIRE APPARATUS IN KANSAS CITY 

Sunday, December 20, 2015   A woman died and a man was critically injured early Saturday when their pickup truck slammed into the back of a Kansas City fire truck on Interstate 435 near Interstate 70.
The fire truck was moving toward the median on I-435 so its crew could assist at another accident scene about 3:30 a.m. when it got struck from behind.
Police reported that a police officer heading toward the original accident scene on I-435 saw a red Chevy Malibu pickup truck ahead of him rapidly leave. The officer did not try to stop the pickup but continued toward the crash scene, where he discovered that the pickup had rear-ended the fire truck.
The woman driving the pickup died at the scene. Emergency workers took a male passenger to a hospital with critical injuries. Neither was wearing a seat belt.
One firefighter was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
