Again, mixed reviews ( the only burger place I have ever done that everybody loved--except for the crowding-- was Shake Shack)

Flatiron, Manhattan, NYGrass Cow had become the regular burger joint of my boyfriend and our roommate. I love their hormone free, grass fed burgers, you can really taste the difference. Get it with the fresh seasonal produce, right now it's Avocado and Heirloom tomato, and it's perfect!
The decor is simple and straightforward, which is nice! The staff is always friendly and happy to help, you can tell they are invested in what they do.
I will admit that the service can be slow, but the end product is always great. -

Paris, FranceGrass Cow prides itself on serving 100% grass fed beef, which is something that normally catches a New Yorker's eye. I decided to give it a try with a friend of mine and was very happy with the taste of the burger. Juicy in all the right spots and tender in others, I loved my dining experience here. The burger was de-lic-ious.
The menu is very limited to burger or cheeseburger with choices of toppings, including avocado.
One criticism I have is that the french fries were not fresh and tasted that way. There was not anything special about them at all. In a restaurant that upholds the statement of using natural ingredients, I say they should make the fries from scratch! -

New York, NYPrice: 5.5 oz. burger for $6.25 is very reasonable, heirloom tomatoes for $0.75 extra is fine as well.
Burger Quality: Outstanding! Every detail was just right: the meat was perfectly cooked, the lettuce, tomato and onion were fresh, and the bun was just right.
Service: Great! The manager Andrew was very passionate about their product and was happy to speak with us about everything.
Decor: Nice seating for a quick bite. I couldn't ask for much more.
Only Reason for 4/5 out of 5/5: The fries. This place prides itself on being natural and healthy (for a burger of course) and yet the fries are frozen. Once they hand-cut and cook the fries in the restaurant my 4/5 goes to a 5/5.
My recommendation: skip the line at Shake Shack and give this place a try. -

New York, NYMeh, a step above shake shack. The fries were a lot like burger king's, and the burger was yummy, but ordinary. The only thing that sets it apart is the price- it's pretty inexpensive for grass-fed beef in the city. I would go again but only if I were in the neighborhood; not something I would go out of my way for, like Bareburger. -

5.5 oz burger for $6.25 (not including tax). It was a decent burger. 6.25 for a plain burger patty is a little much, but the bun and patty were both well executed.
Patty came medium rare with a juicy inside, which was a nice surprise. Bun was soft, but larger than its contents, which makes me a little sad. :( Flavor profile was weak on both the patty and bun side, not entirely satisfying, but both tasted fresh and texture was good.
Service was very friendly, and quite attentive, but perhaps understaffed. My takeout plain burger took a long time for a place that wasn't even at full capacity (10-15 minutes), at 1:30pm on a weekday.
Might try to come back for something more than a plain burger and see how it fares! -

I've walked by Grass Cow several times since they've gotten their signage up earlier this year, but I finally stopped in for a bite this afternoon. It was pretty empty despite it being lunch hour, which is a shame - people who are willing to wait in line a long time at Shake Shack should definitely be willing to check this out as a relatively nearby substitute. The decor is pretty sparse - wooden seating (very nice), a few tidbits about grass-fed beef around the top, and that's about it. Same goes for the menu as well - you order a burger with or without cheese, and the topping selections are a bit minimal. Not a fan of the tomato being a 'seasonal' offering, as that's pretty much a staple anywhere. The only other seasonal offering was avocado, to go along with the standards (lettuce, onions, and pickles).
That said, the burger is clearly the spotlight here. The patty (clocking in at a solid 6 ounces or so) seems bigger, and it is incredibly good. I could probably eat it by itself, without any toppings or bun - this is phenomenal quality. The bun is also really good, albeit a little on the thicker side. The toppings are pretty solid as well - they don't overwhelm the burger, and you can eat everything in a manageable fashion, without the toppings spilling out of the side. But the patty is really the star - my only (small) complaint is that it seemed very slightly cooked unevenly, but nothing that really detracted from the flavor. They also have a few bottles of craft brews on hand, which is a nice touch - I went with the Fire Island Ale, which was a good compliment to the burger without overwhelming the flavors.
In short - definitely will be back, since it's only a block away. It is pricier than burgers you may get at a similar slower fast-food joint, but it's worth the wait. You may have to be patient after you order, but I wasn't in a rush, and I appreciate that the burgers are only cooked to order and aren't sitting on the grill the whole time. One of the best burgers I've had in NYC to date! -

Manhattan, NYI had high hopes for this cute little "joint." But after 3 tries, they are out. My burger has never been cooked to my specifications (it's raw in spots and I like it well done). The meat is good quality but what's the point if I can't eat it. The final straw came when I ordered fries which were sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo salty (and I like McDonalds salty fries) I couldn't eat more than a few. Good for a diet, but not a place I'll return to. -

Another fast casual burger joint with a 'green' theme. They're a dime a dozen these days, but something about the minimalist chic atmosphere at Grass Cow drew me in. At the end of the day, it was an okay burger, but the environment alone is worth a visit.
Star 1: How was the service and atmosphere?
Present, although I sure wouldn't call it fast. Yes, burgers take a while to cook when they're made to order, but I was a bit surprised that I waited a good 15 minutes for my standard cheeseburger. I will commend the environment for being trendy and comfortable. Star Granted.
Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost?
$7 to $10 is standard for fast casual burgers these days, so I didn't bat an eyelash when my burger came to $7.50. However, I will point out here that my burger (and patty) were quite small. It's not necessarily evident in the following picture, but you'll have to take my word for it.

It's a close call, but Star Granted.
Stars 3 and 4: How was the food?
This is a tale of multiple burger parts to be quite honest. While the bun and toppings were good not great, the patty really did blow me away. I could have eaten this patty independent of virtually anything and been satisfied. Together, the combination was a good one. Single Star Granted.
Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could?
This is a really solid burger in a really solid atmosphere, but with slower than usual service and a portion size that leaves a bit to be desired, I can't say it's among the top options in the city. No Star Granted. -
