UPDATED: The Islamist extremists holding Norwegian Kjartan Sekkingstad hostage in the Philippines have killed Canadian hostage Robert Hall.

Former Norway international left-back John Arne Riise, who played for top European clubs including Liverpool, Monaco and AS Roma, announced on Monday that he is retiring from football.

SAS is cancelling 230 flights on Monday, including 18 to and from Norway, after mediators failed to break a deadlock between pilots and the airline.

    British oil giant BP will merge its Norwegian assets with Det Norske, Norway's biggest independent oil company, in exchange for a minority stake of 10.8 billion kroner ($1.3 billion) in the new group, the two sides announced Friday.
