These Are The Original Star Wars Trilogy Roadshow Screenings You Have Been Looking For

The Fates have decreed that Star Wars—a very popular film series about a nerf herder, a friendly cult, and some ambiguously gay robots—must appear in movie theaters at quarterly intervals to appease the merchandizing gods. And with The Force Awakens consigned to the Blu-Ray bin and Rogue One not scheduled for release until December, that leaves a giant hole in the summer Star Wars release schedule. Thankfully, Alamo Drafthouse will fill that hole with "The Return of the Trilogy." WE HAVE BECOMETH STAR WARS TODAY!
The original trilogy—A New HopeThe Empire Strikes Back, and Return of The Jedi—will be screened back to back in more than 20 cities throughout the month of August. It's not actually showing at the soon-to-open Alamo Drafthouse location in Downtown Brooklyn, but it will include a stop at Town Hall on August 6th in NYC.
"It's always been a dream to show the original STAR WARS trilogy again— somehow, someway," says Alamo Drafthouse's VP of Special Events, Henri Mazza. "Seeing the original trilogy on the big screen for the first time is a real life-altering event and just a supreme amount of fun. When the films became available to book for screenings like these, we jumped at the chance to do something big."
You can see the full dates and locations for the showings here—tickets for the events will all go on sale on May 4th. What's not entirely clear is whether this is the hard-to-find but beloved original theatrical release, or the mangled 1997 re-release which included tons of unnecessary &h painful added special effects, that god awful Han Solo/Jabba The Hut scene, and the additional musical number in Jedi. We want to believe this is the original-original version, but in case it isn't, you can learn about how to download the despecialized edition here.
And if you think we're just being super-nerds and it doesn't matter which version it is, you are a son of a bantha who deserves to step on Jabba's tail.
