Just found this bar mentioned on the internet and checked out the Yelp reviews and realized it is trendy and is some people's favorite (others complain it is too noisy!), so why not list it
I am going to have to do a piece on Yelp's best Sports Bars in Manhattan soon

Ahhh, I love the Royal to start with, but nothing beats shuffling over here after a Yelp Elite Event and finding out that like 20 of your friends (and ol' Ruggeford, our fearless CM included) are already checked in here!
We snagged some $5 drafts and gathered around a booth table, armed with a pen and paper for some trivia night action! The emcee was great...Friendly and clear (thanks to a good house sound system too), with tricky but fun questions. I'm no connoisseur when it comes to bar trivia nights, but I had a blast here. We came in during the third round, but with 7/10 questions answered correctly, we'd have definitely been on pace to win the whole shebang if we had gotten there in time for the start. Team Yelp FTW!Comment from Kelley M. of The Royal 8/14/2013Ryan, We are so happy you had a great time at The Royal. We… More » -

Manhattan, NYThis review isn't about the ambiance, the people, or the sports. I am giving it an extra star because the trivia night was fun.
This review is about the food and drinks which are an important component to any worthwhile after work bar visit. Come here if you have extra money to throw away on nothing. I had the worst pour with a cup full of ice on both of my $11 drinks. It felt like it was a glass of watery soda with a tiny splash of alcohol. Stingiest pours ever. I get way better at $3 happy hours at many bars in LES. I felt completely ripped off. I wish I asked how much the drink was before I ordered a second.
Hand down the worst bar food I have ever eaten. Chicken fingers were gross, and the nachos made me sick to my stomach.
Despite it being steps away from my house...Royal I will not be back.Comment from Kelley M. of The Royal 8/14/2013Shell, Thank you for your feedback and I apologize for your… More » -

Manhattan, NYPenn State meets Jersey Shore (nothing against either one, and I am a Penn Stater); but this place is horrible! Kind of like Bounce, but the poor people version of it!
We came here with two of my girlfriends on a Friday night, and I really thought we were the only females inside the place. This bar/club nonsense was filled with guys, who all looked THE SAME! I mean it... same shirts, same jeans, same haircut...
I went to a lot of clubs, and I worked in both night clubs and bars and this place made me so uncomfortable that I really just wanted to hide in the corner and cry!
My friends liked the music (old school hip hop mostly), so we stayed for one drink and then stormed out of there.
Basically, do not come here unless you really miss being hit on by coked out frat boys.Comment from Kelley M. of The Royal 8/14/2013Tatiana, I apologize for your bad experience and thank you… More » -

Review from Grace W.
The place was a typical sports bar, I actually ended up here after a Yelp event, as an after-party. Nice that they had booths, the place seemed pretty crowded for a Wed night.
Considering the amount of drinking that was going on, I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but there was a certain level of creepiness when my girlfriends and I went to the bathroom, and found that one of the guys had followed us there! Literally, he was standing next to the sink with a pitcher of beer, just creepily smiling at us. When we asked him why he was there (mind you, we had had a few drinks by then as well), he just smiled and didn't say a word, then followed us back to the booth. can you say, super creepy?
A group of us ended up staying until they closed (creeper guy left somewhere earlier in the night), and when I told the bartender what happened, he shrugged it off and said that happens. Um, I would rather go to a place where this does not happen. Drinks or no, that's just not cool. -

New York, NYAin't half bad.
I'm not a fan of sports bars, but this place was sleek enough otherwise and played enough old school DMX and 112 to keep my friends and I amused and reminiscent of our high school days.
Service was quick, they've got Magners (...once I got mine, the idea spread like wildfire and my whole table ordered one!), and from 9 - 11 on a Saturday night, it was very chill and the crowd was small. That's TOTALLY cool with me. -

New Rochelle, NYThought I would catch the Knicks Spurs game and satisfy my wing obsession at the same time. Grilled Wings well done were really good. French Fries were burger king style but they have a few different french fry options so try something different... Unless you Love BK.
The whole set up of the spot was cool. The service was lacking. Maybe they didn't anticipate the crowd on a Sunday for the game at a sports bar? Ended up ordering at the bar and then Carrying the food back to my table. Bartenders were cool. Ergo 3 stars. -

New York, NYWent last night to watch NY Rangers/NHL Playoffs and NBA playoffs. They refused to put the sound on for any of the games which is funny because they're a sports bar. The whole night time I was there they had meatpacking-esque music blaring WAAYYY TOOO LOUDLY to even talk to the people at your table without shouting. I understand that they want to get the place bumping at certain point in the night, but is 8:00 with 2 major sports playoffs on that time?
The other aspect that will make you think you're in meatpacking is the bar tab.Comment from Kelley M. of The Royal 5/14/2013Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry the sound was not on… More » -

New York, NYCame on a Saturday night. Small, packed, $10 cover, really for a "sports bar?" LAME all around. Lame music. Lame expensive drinks. Lame entitled 20 somethings that love loudly singing "Cuz you are a piece of me, I wish I didn't neeedddd." womp womp will never be back here again. -

I will be the first to admit that I'm not a "let's go to a bar for an after-work happy hour" type of girl. So when I was invited here for just that, I was kinda "meh" about it but hey why not?
When we first arrived, it was beginning to get crowded but the space is huge so even crowded still left plenty of room. We scored a high-top up front and that included waitress service. The waitress was nice and gave us the wine menu since we told her we wouldn't be ordering any food. I wasn't having wine at a bar like this so I asked if they had Sam Adams and the waitress replied with, "Of course". Oh, okay! Ya know, because a lot of places DON'T serve it. Sorry?
It was very loud inside, which automatically makes me dislike a place. I get bars are loud but I go to dives that are much quieter than this place. They overpoured my beer, causing it to overflow onto my jeans. The space is decorated nicely with plenty of TVs to watch the game but they're not placed strategically enough that you can watch from just anywhere. The lights are blinding, though. I felt like I was under my fluorescent lights at work....Except I was at a bar.
Overall, The Royal is not my type of place (I'm a real class-act and will take a dive over a clean bar any day) but I see its appeal. It seems to be a great place for the after-work crowd but my coworkers and I tend to wind up at someone's apartment or home to drink, rather than standing around a bar or having to shout to have a conversation. I would probably try it again, just because. -
Review from Julia L.
I came here for the first time last night and would love to return under different circumstances and maybe not on a Thursday Valentines day kinda night.
It's fun, it's nice, it's got TVs beyond belief and food. This is the type of place I would go if I was either A. on the prowl for a mate because believe me all the guys/girls had that look in their eyes. B. wanting to watch a game because they have SOOOOO many tvs or C. Going out for the night and want a chill/fun/hip place to go to.
This place tries to attract all the groups from sports enthusiasts to the club goers who want to pregame. It's pretty cool. when I want to celebrate and make all my pals dress up a bit I'll definitely head this way and have some drinks.
Cheers!
