NY State Preparedness Courses

I believe in the motto of the U.S. Coast Guard, "Semper Paratus," -- within limits-- ( my first year at college, my roommate Joe Passaretti,  on the advice of his dad, always carried two condoms in his wallet --what kinds of wallets do people have these days, I would have to google that up and ask around-- )

I use a billfold for my bank card and other ID and usually just have cash in my pants pockets..(a bulging wallet begs to get boosted on a crowded bus or subway)

Now in NYC we know we are just as likely to have a natural disaster as anywhere else and this ostrich business doesn't cut it as they say..

I have a small emergency lamp and will get another ( from LL Bean) as well as an emergency radio with a) battery 2) hand crank and 3) place for auxiliary AA batteries ...I always have extra canned food around and bottled water (but not a lot)

My thinking is usually geared towards the kind of situation another storm like Hurricane Sandy might put us in. ( Loss of electricity and phone connections are so common in many rural areas anyway, or used to be-- people in cities got complacent, after all, when all else fails you can always call the Fire Dept. )

I lack a first aid kit, I had an old one but tossed it when moving for some reason

A friend in California has sent me this which is very worthwhile:
