For Pride, Not Pay- Fire Engineering

Look closely at the slogan on this truck: FOR PRIDE, NOT PAY
Whether career or volunteer, it doesn’t matter. I know I’m not in it for the money. Too many (dare I call them) firemen are too comfortable in doing the bare minimum and going home.
It’s a privilege to wear the uniform, thousands each year are turned away from a hiring process for whatever reason. Those that get to put on the uniform each day owe it to those who came before us, your fellow brothers and sisters, and your community to take pride in your work. Going the extra mile isn’t always the easiest thing to do, but as quoted from Step Up and Lead, “Don’t walk past a problem that you can solve.”
A little elbow grease, a little pride and ownership truly go a long way. You, your rigs, and your work is representative of your department. When someone asks why you do this job, and pride, tradition, and service don’t come to mind, maybe it’s time to leave. Do the right thing or get out, we don’t need lazy, we don’t need whiny, and we don’t need comfortable. We have those already and they are the cancers that are killing my trade.
