I walk a line, a thin red line that few will ever understand.

It's a thin line filled with blood, sweat, heartache, pain and lots of tears.

It can be rewarding, and it can also be sadly tragic.

I walk a line, a thin red line that few will ever understand.

It's a thin line filled with blood, sweat, heartache, pain and lots of tears.

It can be rewarding, and it can also be sadly tragic.

I walk a line where brothers and sisters stand side-by-side, arms reached over each other’s shoulders confidently assured that it’s our meaningful bond that holds this line.

That thin line can be damaged, bent, scratched, taken for granted and even forgotten about.

But that line, that thin red line is always there and will always and forever prevail.

Although it can sometimes be burnt, it will never be tore down or completely destroyed… neither by man nor nature.

It’s a thin red line that burns deep within the hearts of young and old firefighters and at some point has affected everyone’s life.

Not many will ever truly understand this line.

Few have ever walked it. Most never will.

So until you have walked a mile on that line, please empathize and don't criticize.

We walk on a line, a thin line… a thin red line.

20 years ago this month, and only on the job for 6 months, Thomas Wylie, a FDNY Probationary Firefighter lost his life in the line of duty.

He left behind a young family, including his devastated wife left to raise 3 children on her own.

It is with much sadness and regret to inform the Brotherhood that another Brother ours, Erik Steciak, 29, a paid paramedic with the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company in Maryland has been killed in the line of duty.

A 12-year veteran of the Maryland Fire and EMS service, Erik was lost yesterday after being struck by a fire department utility truck assisting him at the scene of an accident.

After being transported from the scene Erik was was pronounced dead at University of Maryl...

Could you love a firefighter through their ups and downs?

When visions of accidents leave their emotions spinning round?

"Could You Love A Firefighter?"

When visions of accidents leave their emotions spinning round?

When their pager goes off, would you just let them leave?

Or would you ask them not to go, begging them "Please".

Would you stress yourself out worrying about their safety?

Or would you convince yourself they might quit for you, just maybe?

Could you stand by their side when things aren't going well?

When they need to be rescued is it you who they can tell?

Will you hold their hand and say it's alright?

Would you listen and comfort them through the night?

Could you deal with their silence after a horrible call?

Or knowing after the fire they almost didn't come back at all?

Could you provide them comfort after a small child dies?

And help them through memories of the small feeble cries?

Could you help them deal with having to rollback the dash,

To recover the bodies of the family killed in the crash?

It's not an easy job that we choose to do,

But we do it to save innocent people like you.

So think about that if your falling for me...

Remember the story about a week ago about a senseless vandalism that had many (including myself) thinking this must be the work of someone disgruntled from the inside.

Well... it looks like the authorities finally have their suspect.

Police arrested 21-year-old Damean M. Kessler after a “lengthy” investigation and are holding him on $25,000 bail in the Allegany County Jail.
