In the late 1950's and early 60's, Stan Freberg was America's edgiest comedian to actually get on radio--for a while--he was too funny for his time, but he WAS the funniest guy around,( pace Lenny Bruce fans) with his crew of Voice Actors like Jesse White, June Foray, Dawes Butler, and many more.
His take off on American History drew laughs from the country but the wrath of the Daughters of the American Revolution, who managed to get it kept off national radio. ( Wow, have times changed).
Freberg was so dangerous because he was so funny --without using swear words or weird sexual innuendo or so many of the in-youtr-face antics of comedians today...

In this selection, he features Ben Franklin quibbling about signing the Declaration of Independence ( "It's all to radical, and a man can't be too careful what he signs these days"-- poking fun at the recent McCarthy era;
And Besty Ross and George Washington arguing whether the flag should have stripes or Polka dots ( Ross belting out her lament,"Everybody wants to be an Art Director")
