Check out some of the events around town that our colleagues are suggesting for this weekend.
KATE HINDS, transportation reporter: Academy Award winner Hayao Miyazaki is well known for his lush and beautiful animated films. His latest and perhaps his last, The Wind Rises, is about war and the engineer who created the plane that bombed Pearl Harbor. "My big question," asked Kate, "his films are always so beautiful, so how do you make something beautiful when the consequence is war?" The limited run is only a week at the Landmark Sunshine Cinema.
KERRY NOLAN, news host, WQXR: There's a free musical performance at the BAM Cafe in Brooklyn and that's where Kerry wants to be on Saturday night for The Mala Waldron Project. Daughter of legendary jazz pianist Mal Waldron and the goddaughter of Billie Holiday, Mala Waldron plays jazz, blues, R&B and even calypso. "She completely makes it her own," said Kerry.
EDDIE ROBINSON, news host, WNYC: He's a working guy on weekends, so Eddie suggests next Thursday, November 14th for an all night Swedish music showcase sponsored by the Consulate General of Sweden in New York. Sweden Makes Music will feature bands, Deejays and performers who will bring the latest in Swedish pop at the new Williamsburg club Baby's All Right at 146 Broadway. Eddie says best of all it's free, but you do need to RSVP on the above link.
