MY VIDEO: How do Chauffeurs Gets Rigs Through Streets of Manhattan So Fast?

One of the things that is amazing is how swiftly FDNY firefighters whisk through crowded Midtown Streets..

I made this video while I was out filming  the "Manhattanhenge" last fall.

Engine 16 and T Ladder 7 have no trouble getting through here like bats out of hell, but the next rig gets caught up...for a moment.

Today, of course, they have the big Seagraves rigs which take a lot of strength and skill to be the chauffeur for...

But as you can see from this photo from the last century, (when the dalmatian would rouse the horses when the fire bell rang)
It was never an easy task.
