So much continues to go unreported in Mexico's Narco-ravaged cities. This becomes especially jarring when you've been living in Boston for the better part of the last year. This is what a normal day looks like at home.
By all rights, given its size, location, and natural resource base, Brazil should be an economic juggernaut. But the truth is that Brazil should never have been designated a BRIC because it is a poorly managed economy that has rarely lived up to its potential.
These are things we can never know. But what is obvious is that a country of 122 million people has been awakened by 43, raising a collective voice for Alexander and the cause of justice in a way that has never been seen before in Mexican history.
If you ask me, Obama's action on Cuba was a master stroke, and full of foresight. He has undercut Putin's ability to use Cuba as a pressure point against the U.S. going forward and has, in a single action, transformed a net negative for the U.S. and Cuba into a net positive for its government, people, and businesses.
Numbers of students of various backgrounds, mostly Latinos, as well as faculty and members of the Santa Cruz community, have made a presence in local demonstrations, including a vigil at the Santa Cruz Clock Tower with the 43 students and the Mexican community.
If Jeb does run, he may face Hillary Clinton on the Democratic side. Now, a "Clinton vs. Bush" contest doesn't exactly thrill many people who are looking for perhaps a little more variety (and a little less dynasty) in our presidential choices, but it is indeed worth contemplating at this point, at least if Jeb is serious about running.

There are hundreds of holiday traditions around the globe, many of which you've probably never heard of -- the giant goat made of hay (Sweden), the witch that brings candy (Italy), the burning pile of dirt (Guatemala).
Mexicans are rightfully outraged at the extent to which corruption has been institutionalized in Mexico, and how it has exacted a toll on society that can be measured in everything from GDP to human lives.
Within Baja California's largest city of Tijuana, which similar to San Diego has a population of over 1.3 million people, exists a dry concrete riverbed that once held the flowing waters of the Tijuana River.
In addition to their more obvious purpose, cookbooks are great sources of inspiration and bedtime reading. They are often the gifts we don't give ourselves but, like a good box of chocolates, we're thrilled to be the recipient. Happy Holidays!
If we hope to truly address the rampant corruption and lack of accountability that has plagued Mexican politics, we first have to acknowledge the self-defeatist attitude and deep social divides that have existed in the country since its inception. This is a battle to be fought by everyone.
Imagine this scenario: you're the head of a household in rural Mexico where the local economy collapsed along with the peso and the jobs never came back. The weakening peso eroded your savings, your purchasing power, but most importantly your dignity.
The people of the United States do not see horses as a source of food, and despite all the scrutiny and pressure coming to bear on the horse slaughter industry, it has shown itself to be consistently reckless, unsafe and inhumane. There's no redeeming it.
