Video: Burning Car Rolls Off During Car Fire Demonstration

Posted on Fire Critic   7 days ago
This is a perfect example of something that should never happen again. If we learn from this fire departments failed demonstration it doesn't need to happen again. Some ideas: chock the wheels, flatten the tires, perform the demonstration on level ground. There is no need to bash the department, simply learn from their mistake.

Don’t Read This…Share it with your Firefighter Wife or Girlfriend

My wife doing her thing and learning to be a firefighter...kinda.
Posted on Fire Critic   13 days ago
We got to meet dozens of great couples. Firefighters and their exceptional wives from across the Country (although I don't think there are any boundries for joining the community)...from Florida to California, New Mexico to Minnesota. We got to hang out with great people and learn about them, get to know them, and get lost in Chicago with them. I met great firefighters and got to learn about their departments. There might have even been a few bromances created.

Has Your Department Considered Using a Drone for Recon?

drone video fire wake forest
Posted on Fire Critic   14 days ago
I have not seen too many fire departments that have embraced the use of drones...which makes sense. I don't know of too many departments that have a bunch of firefighters with nothing to do on the fireground. This video is a great example of using a drone to find a fire. Even though this was not a FD drone, you can see the possibilities. Check it out. Does your department use drones?

While they were stretching out the hose, the power lines from the house fell to ground making the stretch very difficult and making the firefighters dump the hose they had and begin to flake backwards towards the engine.

Helmet Cam: Roof Ventilation at House Fire in San Bernardino, CA

Personnel at FS311 are very well versed and experienced in Vertical Ventilation and Truck Company Operations. While vertically ventilating, crews take burn time and building construction in mind. This particular home was of "conventional" construction, which relies on roof member size and strength, with 1''x12'' roof coverings. This method of construction is a Firefighter friendly construction, and allows firefighters to be aggressive, yet knowing a good solid roof is below them. Newer homes are of a lightweight construction, and rely on trusses to make strength. These homes are not FF friendly, and can be very dangerous with even a short burn time.
