There used to be a place near Sloan Kettering with the same name that was a favorite of the people from the hospitals there...but this is different obviously

Never been here for food, or drinking here on a weekend. I just know that Duncan is the shit and when I go, there's usually no one there. Maybe a group of local alcoholics that just meet up after they're already drunk. Get a game of pool on and talk like they just left a def leppard concert but made sure their ear was against the speakers.
I usually keep it simple. Vodka on the rocks. My friend usually gets a chocolate martini and while I have to say I would never order it, it was very tasty and Duncan puts a lot of effort into making it so damn pretty in that martini glass.
Oh and I've played darts in the back a few times before. I kick ass. -

HOWARD BEACH, NYAwesome place to hang out with friends after work! They had a beer promotion and the waitress gave us free beers and round of shots for 10 people! Who doesn't want to go back!
Order their appetizers, especially the buffalo wings! It's amazingly delicious and addicting! -

Nice little bar. Nothing I would come out of my way for but a dependable place for a laid back time if you're in the area. Bartender was nice and attentive, drinks were cheap, and I think we got some buybacks. They have a dartboard in the back and a bookshelf with some interesting books including The Boston Police Diet and Weight Control Program (which has a fantastic dedication "to all unhappy overweights"), In Praise of Older Women, and...Eclipse by Stephanie Meyer. Well they can't all be winners.
The jukebox was a little funky. Even though were using the supersearch we couldn't find some of the more famous songs by certain artists. Not sure if it's a glitch or what. They also have a cap on the volume, which I like for the sake of conversation but I could do with it being just a touch louder. The bartender apologized for the volume and explained that had to keep the noise down for the neighbors, but I'm cool with the music being a little on the low side as opposed to the alternative. -

Manhattan, NYMeatloaf is fantastic, as is the fresh split pea soup and Yummy Chili (with chips). The ravioli only had cheese in it (no meat) and was heavily breaded. Stay away from that. Otherwise great! -

New York, NYRude, rude, rude!
My friend and I had a Groupon for 1 appetizer, 2 entrees, and 2 beers here. Since the Groupon said we needed to make reservations, we called the day before to reserve a table...aaaand the receptionist just hung up. I let that go, and my friend and I showed up there the next evening with our Groupon. The "greeter/waitress" kinda glared at us for a while (she was having a lively conversation with the guys at the bar), and finally approached us. We showed her our Groupon, she shrugged, and just pointed at a table. How lively.
This woman continued to be our server, and her attitude did not improve. She seemed to have a chip on her shoulder from the very beginning, but I'm not sure why. We were friendly, polite, and clearly weren't dine-and-dashers. She continued to act like we were making her life miserable, barking at us that "I can't hear you over the music" and the like. My friend asked for a beer recommendation, and she gave her some smartass answer that we couldn't hear over the music. We didn't dare ask her to repeat herself, lest she torch our heads off. If it had been busy, I wouldn't be such a stickler about the rude service, but the place was not busy at all--in fact, it was nearly empty.
The food itself was pretty good, and I enjoyed my beer. But with attitude like that, I won't be coming back again. Plenty more restaurants in Manhattan. -

Upper East Side, Manhattan, NYLove this place. Friendly bartenders who run a tight ship, funny as hell and fair to everyone. As charming as they are professional. Just a great staff all around. The owner makes you feel at home as well. Great food and great drink specials if you're on a budget. Real cozy atmosphere, pool table, darts, wish they got the fireplace going every once in awhile but whattayagonnado?
And yeah I work here, duh! Come in to see me Saturdays and see for yerself.

What happens when the bar you originally intended to go to is packed in the middle of the afternoon? You check out the bar next door.
After failing to get into our original destination, we discovered Recovery Room next door. When you first walk in there is a pool table then the bar itself. Towards the back is an area with tables and chairs. We quickly found a table and sat ourselves, as per the waitress. It took her a bit to get to us but she finally did and we ordered. They were out of Stella (...) so I went with a Brooklyn instead. Their beer selection is kind of meh but there is still something for everyone.
We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip to snack on. The dip was tasty but served in a very small bowl. It's supposed to be an app to share with everyone but it was barely enough for two people. Service was slow. Prices were fair. It wasn't nearly as crowded as the other bars we passed by at the time.
Recovery Room is a decent place to stop by and relax, watch El Bloombito, and maybe have a snack. -

Queens, NYWound up here this past weekend because it was the only place in the area that wasn't extremely packed at 9pm on a Sat and we just needed a spot to grab a few after dinner drinks. For 3 of us, it was easy to snag a table in the back but It took FOREVER to get noticed after that - 15 mins to flag down a bus boy to get us a waitress, 15 mins for the only absentminded waitress working that night to speak with us, another 15 for her to come back to take our order, fries/ketchup/plates that came out all piecemeal. Just a really disorganized place made even worse by having a single waitress working that night.
The crowd was a little weird too - made up mostly of what seemed like displaced Murry Hillers trying to catch any sports game available, tables of giggly girls, and this one loner who was double fisting a bottle of beer and a mixed drink, sat it down on OUR table when we were nowhere close to leaving, and then took a seat nearby to glare at us. -

Brooklyn, NYI want to give this place 4 stars...It's a GREAT bar for football, reasonably priced drinks and tasty food...but the table service was terrible!!!
We found the Recovery Room tonight while walking down 1st Avenue looking for a bar to watch the Broncos play during Monday night football. The bar was great, they had the windows open, a pool table in the front, tons of TV's with the sound on, and wasn't crowded. Seemed like the perfect football bar, possibly our new spot to watch the games on the weekend until we had the worst server ever. Not sure why this chick had such a chip on her shoulder from the minute we sat down at her table. We were friendly with her and bought both food and drinks, but she continued to be cold rolling her eyes at us and giving off smartass comments. Maybe she didn't get the memo, but you work in the service industry...meaning you actually have to work for your tips. I'm not sure why they keep her around, it's a great bar.
We will probably return, as long as she isn't our server... -

Manhattan, NYUpper East Side's best kept secret for a fun hangout and great fresh bar fare. The bartenders and wait staff are warm and welcoming. The bar is very well stocked and your glass is never empty longer than you want it to be. Looking for a game of pool? You can always find a willing participant. Football season is the best there. Awesome Sunday brunch too! -

New York, NYI'd give them one star for the hospitality of the bar owner. He was fantastic - he greeted us warmly from the second that we walked in.
The waitress started off on a bad foot by making a rude comment before we had even ordered. We had a Groupon and she made a snarky remark about how we needed to tip on the full amount of the bill. Listen lady, I'm aware of Groupon etiquette. But it's also not my fault that someone else that came in with a Groupon was stingy. No need to give me attitude.
Pretty much everything after that went downhill. The waitress didn't revisit the table after the food was served, so I couldn't reorder a side of dressing (that she had forgotten to bring - and I had ordered in the first place). I tried with no luck to make eye contact with her for about 15 to 20 minutes to get her attention. Eventually another waitress noticed me and brought the dressing. However, by then, my food was cold.
Other than that, the food was standard for bar food - maybe even borderline boring. This bar might be fun for drinks, but not great for food. -

New York, NYNot that friendly, in fact rude. Bad experience all around. If you are looking for a place to go to on upper east side you should keep on walking a half a block further because any place would be better than this one. Not even mentioning a roach in the women's bathroom. Obnoxious service - like they've never heard the word "service" before. -

New York, NYthis place is awful. The manager is a total dick. Drink specials not as advertised. -

Manhattan, NYI like this place because its so close to me, its pretty nice inside and the bartenders are cool. There are a few issues though like the food could use some work and they also need to get a better sound system. I feel like they only have one speaker in there and its blown. If those things were fixed I'd give it a 4.5! -
Review from Ashley J.
It's a cool spot, the area with the darts looks very similar to the bar common ground. With a library and tables. It has a juke box, pool table, darts, it seemed cool. We came so late it wasn't very crowded, and the bartender seeming tired was understandable. He was nice anyway. I'd come back if I was around, but wouldn't go out of my way to come here ( i live on the west side....) to many bars just like this to say definitely come here. Nothing special. -

Saint Louis, MOI come here every month with a http://restaurant.com certificate.
The restaurant always seems quiet and there are never a lot of people. The service is always great and the food is always hot and great.
If you want a crowded sports bar this doesn't seem to be the place, but it's perfect for me and friends to go to and relax after work. -

Hudson, NHHad Shepard's Pie and more than one beer with some friends. Great place! Not too loud and they take requests to change the channel if you have a particular game you want to watch. The server was probably in the top 5 worst I have ever had. She made the top 3 list for the other 4 people at the table. But in the end, we got food and beer so can't complain too much. -

Warwick, NYWe only came here for drinks....
It's your typical Irish bar. Random music, standard drinks, average people. The one good thing about this place is that it did not have city prices. My vodka and soda was a only $4. Where else can you find those prices in the city on a Saturday night?!?! -
Review from Daniel R.
Manhattan, NYGreat Irish sports pub/bar & restaurant! Wide variety of draft/bottled beer, great food! I've had everything from a burger with sweet potato fries to the Shrimp Scampi special - always had excellent food (and considerable portions) for a reasonable price! TVs everywhere - you can always see your game whether you're sitting at the bar or in the very spacious dining room! Pool table, darts as well. The staff is very friendly and attentive - Ian, Courtney, Diane, Angela (& others who I may not have met yet) - and Joe, the owner, is a great guy! Joe always says hello and is a great guy to talk to - clearly he loves his business and appreciates his customers! Trivia Tuesdays - awesome time! -

Jersey City, NJWas here for St. Patty's Day.
Great Irish pub. Deceptively large, with plenty of bar space, tables in the back and screens to watch all the sports you need. Beer selection and cocktails were good. There was a lot of food for the price, and they threw in some free Irish Soda Bread! Service was super friendly and attentive. Wasn't extremely crowded like so many places on the UES that day, so it's a good place to go with friends (you can actually carry a conversation). I'd definitely go back! -

Manhattan, NYWent last night and had a great time, laid back environment, reasonable prices and friendly staff. I used a groupon and had a great waitress, chicken fingers, fish and chips and meat loaf were all memorable. fish and chips was the favorite of the night. nice beer selection as well, I will be back for NFL season definitely.
