Reviews go from near raves to real sour apples because of this
One woman suggests this is typical of spas " It all depends on who you get" ( and I suspect there is indeed a turnover in the people who work in these places)
What can you do? Skim through them and see what you think

Review from Laura S.
Manhattan, NYJade is my neighborhood place. As others mention, it can be inconsistant, but generally a good experience.
The best pedicure I've ever had was the spa pedicure given to me by Linda. She put so much effort into the massage, the scrubbing of clauses, etc. the paint job was fine, but she the relaxation part was fantastic. She was also extremely friendly and professional.
Best massage I've had is by Julie. She pushed hard, and got into the deep parts where I tend to be tight. I've also had good massage by Peter and Jamie.
My least favorite masseur is ford. He is very gentle and slow moving. During a 90 minute deep tissue, he spent the first 30 minutes gently pressing areas on my back through a towel. The remainder of the massage was fine, but definitely not deep tissue. I also didn't understand why 80% of the massage took place through a towel.
Overall, I really like Jade and find it to be convenient, quick, but professional and relaxing. The woman who appears to be in charge (tall, lanky, smiley) is always very warm and takes pride in presenting the various services.Comment from Jade D. of Jade Day Spa 8/11/2013Laura - thanks so much for your review and positive comments… More » -

Manhattan, NYI would give this place 3.5 stars for the massage and 2 stars for the mani.
I called and booked an appointment. When I got there and showed them my voucher the lady at the front first told me I could not use it on weekends. I asked her to show me where it said that and she couldn't so after some back-and-forth she agreed to let me keep my appointment. Then she couldn't locate my voucher on her system. she finally found it and after letting 3 people walk in for a mani despite my appointment she informs me I will have to wait because all nail techs are busy.
I decided to get a massage as I waited. The massage was good and no complaints.
Finally got my mani which chipped and peeled the next day. And the voucher apparently was for the Spa mani/pedi which they value at $65. Definitely not worth that amount. It was a normal mani/pedi.
Overall, decor and ambiance is nice. The lady in the front was super nice despite the initial hiccups as was the man who gave me my massage. Horrible mani and they insist on a 20% tip if you try and give less for mediocre service.
The sad thing is I have gone there before for a facial and it was great!! I would consider going back for a facial or massage but definitely not a mani/pedi. -

$29 Manipedi!!! I am not sure if this is just a week day special but it's definitely a great deal for a great quality mani pedi.
The place is a full service spa that also accommodates walk-ins well. The manicure pedicure stations and tools look very well
Maintained and clean. I like this place when I am in midtown and it's late and I need a Manipedi. They are open till 9pm
During the week which is awesome.Comment from Jade D. of Jade Day Spa 8/4/2013Thanks Nicole for your positive feedback! We're glad to… More » -

Midwood, Brooklyn, NYI'm not cheap! I am able to pay $ 15. The problem was not an extra charge. The problem is your worker. Read carefully my Review.1 Previous Review: Show all »

New York, NYI would give 0 stars but I'm not sure that's an option. I would not recommend the Groupon deal. I'd been traveling for work and hadn't been able to use it, so I called a few days before the expiration date to make an appointment for the upcoming weekend when I would be home. The woman on the phone assured me it was fine and took my voucher number, without saying I would need it again upon arrival. The spa called me at 10pm the night before my appointment because they didn't remember whether I needed a facial or massage. Since I needed a facial, they had to reschedule me because they had double booked. After taking a cab ride to get there they informed me that the Groupon could not be used. What a waste of time and money! I cannot trust what I'm told there, apparently.Comment from Jade D. of Jade Day Spa 10/6/2013Groupon deals are valid for 6 months from purchase date.… More » -

Manhattan, NYI wish I could give 0 start to this business. definitely a place to avoid.
After buying a mani-pedi loot on Lifebooker, I called the business and booked an appointment at 3.00 pm for the next Saturday specifying that I would have used my Lifebooker.
Once I arrived there they first told me that I had to wait at least 30 minutes, despite me showing them that I was the only person booked in their agenda for that time. I then showed my Lifebooker and they told me after several back and forth ( more than 10 minutes) that I couldn't use my Lifebooker on week-ends.
As result I couldn't do my mani-pedi as scheduled, I had to go to another business, and I also wasted my time including the 15 minutes discussing the usage/ non-usage of Lifebooker.
I asked for a refund because I will never go back there! waste of time and money!!!! definitely a place to avoid.Comment from Jade D. of Jade Day Spa 10/6/2013Many of the customers using Lifebooker Loot fail to mention… More » -

Manhattan, NYI couldnt get an appt with the woman i go to at bb nails so i decided to go next door to my building to jade spa. The pedicure was 15 minutes never have i had such a fast pedicure i went in to relax and it was a nightmare!! After the pedicure we went upstairs for the manicure and as the woman is filing my nails the man who works there was clipping his toenails it was so disgusting the nails were flying al over. I finally said something and the owner apologized but that was the extent of it. A decent place would have comped the mani. Really unprofessional and very rushed. Never again would i go back i will stick with bb nails on lexington!! -

I've been here a few times and they have not messed up my eyebrows so that's worth a lot. I went for the first appt of the day and she saw me right away. There was a 20% coupon that day for everyone which was great---they are not as careful as the women I always go to but in a pinch they are great. It is nice inside and they have those awesome green asian candy. -

New York, NYIt's summertime so I've been breaking out here and there and it bothers me. I walked in and asked for a facial, not knowing which one to get so I told the lady about my skin issues. Cindy (the one who gave me the facial) was extremely nice and insightful. She could tell that my skin problems were also internal because I don't drink a lot of water and I eat sweets a lot. She's absolutely divine and honest!
I asked her which facial I should get and she told me that she had to examine it first. Eventually, she recommended the acne facial (I thought as much) and it was because of underlying comedones. Extractions were painless and the masks were super relaxing and fragrant. We speak the same language so that was a plus. Now onto the best part: the MASSAGE!
The massage is absolute heaven! She's experienced in tui-na and all sorts of methods and practices. Very relaxing, I'm tempted to come back just to get a back massage. She could tell that I was tense in the upper shoulders and lower back area. I briefly explained that I paddle on a dragonboat on the weekends.
Price is fairly expensive but worth it in my opinion. ($120 for a acne facial and comes with a massage) After the facial was over, she gave me tons of Dermalogica samples which I love. I'm a huge fan of Dermalogica products in general.
Overall, I recommend this place for their facials and massage. Most especially Cindy - she's off on Tues and Sundays though. My face has cleared up in exactly 6 days since the facial. The experience was utterly amazing but after two weeks, acne returned to my face again. I think it's probably my diet though.
I was as last min. appointment so scheduling is quite flexible. I would give this a 3.5 star if I could because this place is extremely expensive for an acne facial (including tips came out to about $135...) -

New York, NYFinally a spa where they know what deep tissue massage is!!!
Everybody is so nice! Minute i walked in - i felt like i was on vacation. Atmosphere is very relaxing and staff is very pleasant.

Bought a Groupon Now deal today for a 60 minute Thai massage. The place was empty when I showed up at 4pm, but it was a Tuesday. The staff all seemed pretty nice. Walking thru the spa to the treatment rooms, everything looked really clean and in good condition.
My treatment room with nice with a cute wooden bath/shower area. My masseuse gave me a pretty decent massage after I told her to put more pressure into it. It wasn't quite a Thai massage like the ones I have gotten in Thailand, but more of a Tui Na or pressure point massage. I felt really relaxed afterwards if a bit sore from all of the pressure points she had worked on. -

I hobbled in with crutches on a Sunday evening, and I was the only customer. In their defense, it was the Sunday after Thanksgiving and folks are just coming back into town.
ANYWHO, my broken leg has kept me from going to my favorite eyebrow threading place, so the proximity of this spot to my place and the no stairs at the entrance brought me in. I asked if they could wax me without me going down the stairs, and they were QUICKLY accommodating. The nice guy helped me sit comfortably while the waxer grabbed her goods and set up shop next to me. It was comfortable and they couldn't have been nicer. I couldn't say the same for their neighbors Niobe spa!
Their kindness and their 20% discount (waxing was pricey at $15 for brows, discounted to $12.75) on all services will bring me back sans crutches. They also have chair massages, hot oil massages and acupuncture, all on sale! -
Review from Betty B.
I came here about a month ago with a few of my girlfriends to get mani/pedis and chair massages and was very disappointed in the service I received, while some of my friends had better experiences.
Here's the rundown of what happened to me:
Manicure - the lady cut my cuticle too deep and made my thumb bleed.
Pedicure - same lady did not separate my toes with cotton, which is supposed to be the norm, so that your toe polish doesn't mess up. (my friends had their toes separated with cotton, so why not me?)
Massage - the same lady gave me the massage, which was awful. she forgot to put a clean sheet for your face to press against the chair (germs and oils!), and her massage was given with half effort.
I had the mani/pedi and then massage, THEN she brought me to dry my nails and feet. wouldn't it be dry by then, or smudged? makes more sense if i was brought to the dryer first, then get a massage, but i guess she wanted me to be finished so she can work on someone else.
the pros from my friends were that the guy who works there gives a lot of effort in his chair massage. and i think he only does the chair massages for people who are paying for 30min. i had the 10 min massage, which is probably why i got the lazy manicurist.
Overall I felt a bit rushed and not taken care of properly. While the prices are decent, I would prefer to go somewhere that puts more effort in their services. -

I have been to several nail technicians here over the past 9 mos. & never had a bad experience for manis or pedis (outside of the obnoxious customers on their loud cell phone calls..if you need to shout your conversation, couldn't you find a better location than a mani/pedi place?) To put it in perspective, I have probably been to about 8 different technicians here. Like anywhere else, some are better than others. A few times I've indulged in a 15 minute chair massage too...and no complaints there either.
Not the cheapest or most expensive place in the neighborhood, but nice spacious & clean location. great location for me and rarely more than a 10 minute wait for a walk in. Many colors of OPI polish. ( I usually bring my own so I know I have the color for touch ups, but am glad to know it is there when I forget mine.)
This is not Bliss or your traditional Spa experience... nor the price tag, but for a neighborhood mani/pedi, chair massage place it is reliable. The staff has always been pleasant and accommodating and it is nice not to be overwhelmed by the fumes of acrylics which happens in a few places nearby. -

Manhattan, NYI did the groupon today because my skin has been through hell this past week. They were very accommodating and nice. the faciaiist used Dermalogica products and the room was cozy. It was a good deal for $59.00. =) -

Boston, MAIt's hard to rate a spa, because your experience depends on what person you get. So the rating depends on the individual, not the establishment. Anyway, I had an eye brow wax and a manicure by this sweet lady named Manny. It came to about $28, which is very cheap in my opinion. I was looking for it to come to an even $40. All the staff were extremely nice and though I didn't get to use most of the other options, everything looked in pretty good shape. The location of this spa is a bit hidden, if you are not looking for it, you will probably not see it. I passed this place at least 6 times before I knew it existed. The interior decor of this place is very pleasant and relaxing. 4 stars! -

New York, NYI live here and come for a random treatment every once in a while but don't know why I don't come more often. Came for a sweedish massage and it was great. Came for a few manis and pedis and they too were good. The place is very clean and I love the chinese decor. I feel like I'm walking into an relaxing experience like a mini-mnd vacation when I walk through the door. It's a pretty big space and it never seems crazy busy. I plan to go back and try a spray tan next time. I honestly don't know what's up with all the poor reviews I read. I really like this place. -

New York, NYI came here with a Groupon for a one-hour deep-tissue massage and a deep-cleansing facial and was very disappointed in my experience. I will not be back.
The problems weren't with the facialist -- she was very knowledgeable, capable, and efficient. She asked me questions about my skin and adjusted the procedure to my skin type. I left very satisfied with that aspect of my visit.
The massage, however, was a waste of money. The room was cold and the man giving the massage wasn't engaged in the process. He either didn't know or didn't care to properly work out the pressure points. I kept waiting for the "real" massage to start, but it never did. I was never fully able to relax, as my attention kept being distracted by his inconsistencies -- he did different things on each side of my body. With massages I've had in the past, I usually relax and conk out right away, and I leave with that great woozy feeling. With this massage, I didn't even feel like I'd had one. I've gotten better massages from unlicensed friends just rubbing my back.
Plus, at the end, when I was supposed to go to the facialist next, he just left me lying in the cold room until they brought my friend in, at which point a. she had to change in front of me, and b. I had to move all my stuff to the other room myself. Plus I was just in a towel and I had to ask to even get a robe. I wish when I had asked the guy if it was alright to put my clothes back on, that he hadn't told me no, to just wait. I was very uncomfortable through the whole process with him. I did not feel he was knowledgeable or professional.
Finally, when it was all over, the amount of pressure that he put on me to leave a 20% tip made me really uncomfortable. Unless the service is notably bad, I tip generously because I'm in the service industry myself -- in this case I would've tipped below 20% for the guy, but unfortunately I couldn't do that because he told me he and the facialist were going to split down the middle anything I left, and I didn't want to punish her for his shortcomings. Ultimately I left over 20% for both of them, just to be out the door. This was a very negative experience for me and I won't be going back, nor will I encourage any of my friends to.Comment from Jade D. of Jade Day Spa 3/25/2012I'm glad that you enjoyed your facial but I'm sorry that the… More » -

Bronx, NYthis is was my first time going to a Spa with my friends and I enjoyed every moment of it.
while working like 80 part-time jobs, the 1 hour Jade Deep Tissue massage is to die for! i was knocked out after 5 minutes laying in the bed. The person who took care of me was very caring and friendly. She was in depth with the massage as well and took care of the spots I requested.
My friends got manicures and full body scrub which they enjoyed. I think Jade Day Spa HAS EVERY COLOR O.P.I. nail polish. They also have a great selection of essie as well.
I will def will be back for full body scrub and facial. -

Manhattan, NYWent here this morning for the second time for three treatments. The experience was the best that I've had in the area. I've been to several different places in the neighborhood and nothing compares to Jade Day Spa. I'm going to make it my regular neighborhood spot. While the prices aren't exactly cheap (mani = $12 pedi = $25) it's worth the extra few dollars for the cleanliness and quality of service compared to other neighborhood spots. Bonus was that they have free wi-fi service for guests so you can work/surf on your iPad or laptop while you're having a pedicure/manicure etc. The place is very pretty inside and they offer every guest water or hot tea. The selection of colors is also the best I've seen in the area and they have the newest OPI and Essie on display. GREAT place.
