Sinful Science

The best time to see Comet ISON will be early morning, so rise and shine for a special look at it through our telescopes, and then take an early morning journey into the redwoods on a moderate 3 mile hike.
Mystery Science Halloween

Come dressed as your favorite detective. Your mission is to complete the stations in order to collect the necessary clues to solve the cosmic mystery. Try fingerprinting, fiber analysis, chemical evidence and more.

Opening Event

The exhibits team delved into the Chabot basement and un-earthed some unusual and mysterious objects. Join their journey of discovery during our grand unveiling. Become an investigator and use your senses to find out what's inside our veiled mystery boxes. Discover new life forms like our resident alien, Klutron. "Fact or Fiction" ...you decide! What will you discover when you dare to dig?

Each Sunday preceding the 1st quarter moon, the Eastbay Astronomical Society invites you to a special private telescope viewing. Unlike our regular viewing on Friday and Saturday evenings, EAS personalizes the experience by taking viewing requests, live interaction, and hosting tours and it's exclusively for our members!

Minimum of 10 couples required
The bright fall moon will be shining as you explore the redwoods from twilight to moonlight on an easy 3-4 mile hike led by an experienced hiker and Chabot educator. This interpretive hike includes discussion about the natural environment, an overview of the night's sky and astronomy basics as well as star gazing through provided binoculars. After the hike head to a private cocktail hour in one of Chabot's engaging exhibition spaces before exploring the museum. Dinner can be purchased in the Space Café. Includes admission for two to the museum.
The Dusty Dozen

America and NASA the impossible. We met JFK’s challenge to explore Earth's moon in an up-close and personal way. A dozen American astronauts would become humanity's first ambassadors to visit our companion world, Luna. In this presentation, we will be introduced to the "Dusty Dozen," lucky men who risked so much for the reward of skipping along the surface of, and working on, an extraterrestrial world. We will look at the six Apollo lunar missions and meet the gallant astronauts and Command Module Pilots that brought their insights of what may be the most awesome adventure and accomplishment of humankind.

Ring in the New Year without staying up all night! Come to Chabot and celebrate strokes of midnight around the world at 11am, 1pm, and 4pm! Kids count down to 2014 as thousands of balloons reign down on them. And each child receives a special prize. Now the kids can ring in the New Year without staying up past their bedtime!
