The last one is both funny and sad--the incredible frustration of one person who called for food and had to scream into the phone to be heard and everything when downhill from there

New York, NYI will preface this review by acknowledging that I had been drinking all day and may not have been completely sober when eating my food. That being said, usually food tastes better after drinking... but most of this meal was atrocious.
Not only did I wait 45 minutes for my food to come even though I live within a 5 minute walk of Pita Grill, but my sweet potato fries were so soggy and greasy that I couldn't pick them up without them falling apart. I don't expect much when ordering take out fries, so my standards were already pretty low... but these fries didn't come close to meeting any standard close to edible - even after trying salvage them by baking/toasting them in the oven for a few minutes.
Luckily, my grilled chicken and fresh mozzarella panini was a saving grace - the bread was still warm and soft and the cheese still melted. There was a perfect amount of pesto - enough to add some flavor but not too much to overwhelm the marinade on the chicken.
Take away from my experience with Pita Grill: stick to pizza if you've been drinking all day and want something satisfying and tasty. -

New York, NYWeak. Ordered the chicken platter and they were out of sweet potato mash. they wouldn't allow a substitute of sweet potato fries, which doesn't make sense to me even if its a different price point - like can't you just give me less?
veggies were awful awful awful.
chicken was OK.
all of it was overpriced. -

New York, NYI always go to the Pita Grill after my hair cut. I definitely would not say this is the best falafel I have ever had but it certainly is good. It is made to order and comes out all hot and crispy. Plus they have a Group-on ( $6 for $10). There tahini sucks, Absolutely the worst I have ever had any were. It's thin and watery like someone washed out a jar of tahini and is now serving you the washing liquid. I would definitely give it a pass and instead spend and extra buck for baba ghanoush.
This is probably a solid three star place but they get an extra star for the selection of Hint water. Hint water is the best. -

Manhattan, NYMy eggplant was burnt....not in a good way either....im talking charcoal. Boyfriend had the falafel and said it was really good so i guess stick with that if youre going there.
The waiter was really nice. The place was very clean. Music was horrible, not fitting. Oh well. I won't be going back. -

I've ridden the bus past this place more times than I can remember and finally I decided to stop in since I wanted some falafel and hummus. My friend and I decided to order the falafel and hummus platter thinking "baked falafel, sounds good"
Unfortunately it was anything but good. Despite having plenty of hummus, there were 5 measly balls of falafel that definitely did not taste like falafel. It tasted like they had just mashed a bunch of ingredients together that didn't mesh well and called it falafel. The hummus tasted like they had added peanut butter ~~ which is very very very bad! It looks like they're trying to save money by not using all chickpeas and tahini.
Overall, I would definitely not go back. -

Midtown East, Manhattan, NYI am DONE with this place! Not only do they NEVER put any effort into their salads (just throwing together some greens with hardly any cranberries, feta, etc.) they don't even have the brains to slice the chicken. I mean how does one eat a giant filet of chicken just sitting on top of a salad in flimsy tin?
Most importantly, DO NOT ORDER the fish tacos. They claim they are "blackened" when in actuality, they are FRIED. The woman I spoke with apologized and said they fry them until they are black, hence Blackened. Seriously? Enough said! -

New York, NYYum. Oh so yum. I was craving falafel and their new location had been flaunted as "coming soon" for a great big forever. So now the stars were in line... my Thursday evening was planned to be low-key, Pita Grill was now open. Falafel in sight!
So much on their menu looked great. Super tasty. After reading the reviews here, I really wanted the Pita Grill Salad, but it wasn't cheap and I wasn't *that* hungry, so I just went with the $5 falafel sandwich (solo - sans-sides).
I've never had falafel that was baked quite like this. It was a little drier than some falafel I've had, but then again, I wasn't grabbing this late at night and it was actually kind of nice and refreshing to have a slightly healthier spin on the item. Recommendation would be perhaps to get a little extra sauce on the side, just in case certain portions aren't properly um sauced.
Overall, loved it and will definitely be back to check it out again. Did I mention yum? -

Oakland, CAThe only place my picky best friend Abby will eat a pita.
(mm fresh salads and good meat stuffed inside a toasty pita).
And this East Village location has an Urban Outfiters next door for your post-pita pleasure. -

New York, NYPita Grill frustrated me on so many levels. First of all, I didn't really walk in expecting to pay $30 for food and drinks for two at a "fast food" place - hello! But the borderline rude and slow service made me want to consider it a wash and just walk out.
I waited, though, and continued to be disappointed. In short, the food, it's just not good. I ordered a Greek salad, and it came out platter style, not mixed or chopped or anything. I spent a good 10 minutes trying to mix my salad on the small plate when my boyfriend said, "oh, I think maybe you're supposed to just stuff everything in the pita." Ok, so clearly I'm an idiot, but really - when you order a Greek salad, don't you expect to eat . . . a salad? My bad. He ordered the fish tacos which were ok, but certainly not worth $13.
Meh. -

Jersey City, NJIt's funny to me how trendy 'health food' means you can gouge people on the price. Think about it...if it's health food that means you DON'T add salt, butter, fat, etc to food, and just use simple ingredients. Using less means you can charge more. Damn.
My 1 and only experience with Pita Grill was out of sheer curiosity. I got their falafel platter. Never again shall I eat BAKED falafel. Sometimes you can get away with baking instead of frying to be healthier. Not with falafel. It tasted like and had the consistancy of crusty DRY bean flour. Probably the worst falafel I've had. The portions are REALLY small for the price too. Nothing about my meal could save it from a 1 star rating.

Manhattan, NYThe service wasn't especially friendly but the woman who took my order was very considerate. The hummus sample they had out was very good and I'm a bit of hummus snob. I got the chicken pita sandwich with classic tahini and it was very good. The wait was longer than I expected because the place looked like the kind of restaurant that leaned toward a more fast food experience however it wasn't very long (I may have been more impatient because I had a baby with me). -

New York, NYCompletely inedible. The falafel actually tasted toxic - like mixed with cleaning fluid.
I used to enjoy the location in Chelsea near my former job...I thought the Midtown location would be a sure bet for a quick meal...I was seriously mistaken.
It really breaks my heart to have to throw out food. :-( -

New York, NYI have to admit I'm addicted to the "Pita Grill salad". I have been ordering from this place for years and love the salad so much that I have NEVER bothered trying anything else on the menu (well, except including a side order of sweet potato fries or hummus). The marinated chicken & eggplant is grilled to perfection and the dressing is d-e-l-i-s-h!
After my friend introduced me to the salad, I had it for lunch practically 3 times a week until what was one of the saddest lunch breaks ever - - they shut down! Eventuallllly, they reopened as "Union Grill" and kept me on my toes by changing the name of the salad to the "Union Grill salad".
Just when I was used to saying the corrected name, the damn place shut down and recently reopened up as a Pita Grill on 57st. I have only ordered from this new location once and have noticed a difference in the quality of food BUT still highly recommend giving the Pita Grill Salad a shot.
P.S. Always order extra salad dressing on the side -

Manhattan, NYI frequent the Pita Grill on 9th and as far as I'm concerned they can do no wrong. I regularly order rice bowls, the goat cheese salad, the fish taco platter, etc. The food is nothing short of phenomenal, the staff is inviting to the point that I'm on a first name basis with many of them, and the food arrives appearing appetizing. I recently moved to a new job and found this Pita Grill on 2nd to be the closest to my new office, so assuming the food would be on par with the 9th Ave location I ordered the goat cheese salad. First off, giving my order via phone proved difficult. I talk on the phone all day, so I know my land line works perfectly fine, but this woman kept saying "I can't hear you", so I basically ended up screaming my entire order through the phone, which wouldn't have been a problem had she not continued to blame her not being able to hear me on my phone. I ordered the goat cheese salad, an old favorite of mine at the 9th ave location. When it arrived I was SO disappointed upon setting eyes on it. It didn't even look the same, let alone taste the same. Even the packaging was different. You would think that being a chain certain things would remain uniform, but that is CERTAINLY not the case. Not one item in the salad was fresh. Even the pita, which is supposed to be toasted with goat cheese melted on top along with caramelized onions was uncooked, the goat cheese just partially melted and the onions cold and gnarly looking. The entire experience was enough to bring me to yelp and post a negative review (which I don't normally do as evidenced by my profile). I would STRONGLY advise against eating here. And I would STRONGLY advise Pita Grill midtown east contact Pita Grill midtown west and take some lessons and food preparation, presentation and customer service.
