Well, let's see what the Yelpers say--pretty damn popular, yet I left in the one sour apple just to show there are going to be some who don't like the place

Manhattan, NYI've always been a DSW fan! Love snooping around the aisles and clearance sections finding little gems tucked away in the goodness. This location is clean, easy to get to (right off the train station), big, organized and the staff is super friendly. I had 3 different sales people ask me if I needed any help as they were passing up and down the aisles....and it wasn't like the stores wasn't busy.
The best part about DSW is that they accept expired coupons! I received one in the mail for $10 off my next purchase a few months ago and in true "girl' fashion, totally forgot about it once my vortex of a purse sucked it into the big black hole that I swear is somewhere at the bottom of it! Anyways, once it decided to spit the coupon back out at me (when I decided to clean out my purse one afternoon) I realized I never used my coupon and it was now over 1 month expired. NO worries! When I sheepishly handed it to the cashier, while ringing up my order, and asked if maybe they could still use it, she grabbed it with a smile and just "no prob, of course!" She didn't even bat an eye when she looked at the expiration date. Apparently, she said, they take ANY of their own coupons, all the time, no matter what the expiration date was. "whew". Ended up walking out with a 90 dollar pair of shoes, that was on clearance for 25 and then got the additional 10 dollars off. Heck Yeah!! I am wearing my new comfy $15 shoes right now and proud of it! :P -

Brooklyn, NYI am what you might call a connoisseur of DSW's. I was walking by this location working (per usual) and figured I could not pass up an opportunity to take a gander at what this DSW has in contrast with other DSW's. Sure, the racks are the same, but the clearance section varies greatly. For instance, Long Island DSW's put much more size 12&13 men's dress shoes on clearance simply because they sell less of those there than they do in say Union Square. I've gotten brand new Cole Haan wingtips for 15$ at DSW's before! I know, GTFOH right?
So first thing I noticed is that this location is huge, true to it's name (read: "warehouse"). Secondly, is is very clean, meticulously clean one could even say. The staff greets you as you walk in, and are constantly asking if you need help with anything but are not pushy about it.
Selections are as vast as they are affordable. Stop in, I promise you will not leave unsatisfied and rocking some new shoes.
While I still prefer LI DSW's when I am in the area, this is my favorite NYC one so far. -

Mercanti
Cole Haan
Gucci
Magnanni
Those are the heavy hitters at this location. The Mercanti's are probably your best bet here because the selection is wide and the pricing is fair. Not everyone has the presence of mind that would allow them to make a shoe purchase of $200+.
I don't have that issue.
Well, not if I know I'm getting a great deal.
And great deals were to be had last weekend. Aside from the Gucci, there were plenty of shoes available to help you transition from your Kenneth Cole Reaction's to something more mature and befitting an adult.
Just try not to be cheap about it... -

Ok today is DSW's soft opening day (as most people in retail know a soft opening means they are open to the public to test out all everything and everyone and work out kinks that may arise) I received a $15 coupon code in an email this morning and printed it out for later on after my shift (I work a block away so I knew I was going to stop by).
The Layout is very similar to it's predecessor in that it's all lined up in rows and cash wrap is located at the far left hand side side of the store (although I will say there are a lot more registers which made the line move faster). TONS of people stopped in today. Since its the Upper West Side you saw all the normal things like carriages and dogs which made the aisles seem a lot smaller than I believe they are. I'd have to come back on a day where it's not so crowded and really get an idea for that, but between bumping into people and then their bags it got a tad overwhelming.
I decided to make my way up after looking a the main floor (the main floor and upper floor are for the ladies while the basement level is for the gentlemen) the crowd wasn't as bad and I was able to try on a few pairs of flats before deciding on a fantastic pair of Tahari's in a nude color for work. I took a quick peek at the clearance section before I left it's located on the upper level way in the back.
I didn't wait long at the register and a lovely gal named Michelle helped me out (turns out she's been in my store and I recognized the heck out of her it was a cute moment) not only did I see her but I saw one of the managers a lovely woman by the name of Fan who had also been into my place of work and seemed genuinely happy that I came by for the soft opening which made me feel very good. At the cash wrap it seemed there was a small mishap with my coupon but Fan was happy to make the proper adjustments for me and I happily thanked her. The staff here were pretty knowledgable. I overheard a few giving tips and advice on what styles may suit them better to some people, but I also overheard some of the staff not knowing where certain things were meant to be which is not a biggie just someone who's gotta have better memory lol.
I enjoyed my hour and a half at the new location and I'm pretty sure i'll be making more trips now. One of my biggest reasons for never really stepping foot into a DSW was the travel but I'm super happy I've got one way close to me now. -

Very happy to see DSW in the UWS. The new store has a pretty open layout, though the aisles felt narrow. This location is not a big as the one on 7th, but it has a really good selection (women's shoes -- I didn't check out men's stuff).
And it has a very neat clearance section upstairs!
I bought three pairs of shoes today (somehow all Steve Maddens) for $130. I will definitely be back. -

Came here for their Fashion Party. I went upstairs to the clearance section and immediately found some cute pumps at a great price.
I am a Premiere Status member so that tells you that I am a dedicated shuluvr. They give great deals and they are also on Facebook, where you can also get in on some extra bonus discounts. The store rocks and the staff is uber helpful.
I love DSW. -

New York, NYI bought a pair of DSW shoes online and they looked really nice when they came in the mail...It was a pair of imported higher-end shoes. I wore them a few times only to realize that they were hurting my feat. The pain in my feet got worse and worse, but i gave them a chance to break them in so I kept wearing them.
Eventually I could not wear them anymore, so I decided to bring them back to the store to see if they would return them for store credit. They were very helpful and refunded the money back onto my card despite the fact that I wore them a number of times. I bought a different pair of shoes and I was very pleased overall with this level of customer service.
Thank you DSW upper west...You Rock! -

Great new addition to the neighborhoods. Sale area is not the largest I have seen, but they are well stocked in sizes. Wish they had some more sneakers. Quick check out. -

Manhattan, NYWent the other day to check out our new DSW on UWS. Terrible customer service in Men's Dept. One guy working there, he was more concerned about avoiding all customers, not making eye contact, staying on cell phone. When I asked him for help about a specific shoe, he basically couldn't even respond. Not too sure he could even speak! What's that all about???? Never been a big fan on DSW. Another "factory outlet" style store supposedly offering lower prices, but really doesn't. Definitely will avoid this new lame chain that has invaded out neighborhood. -

Manhattan, NYOver the past two days; I was on a mission to find a pair of women's hiking / outdoor sneakers - the 34th Street location was out of my size, but told me that only NJ had a pair - and to go there because they do not transfer between stores. I went to 79th to check - they were out too; but Michelle, was so nice and offered to locate a pair at another location - she called the stores that showed availability and the manager approved the transfer to that location - Michelle went above and beyond - that's great customer service.
