Lawrence Kreger --
Last year the Rent Guidelines Board (RGB) delivered a major victory for over a million rent stabilized tenants in New York by providing a 0% increase for tenants signing one year lease renewals, and a 2% increase for tenants signing two year lease renewals. Though these new guidelines were not a rollback as we may have hoped, this rent freeze was a big win for countless New Yorkers.
Now that victory is under attack. There is a pending lawsuit against the RGB seeking to raise rents for over one million New Yorkers. This week I stood outside of the New York Supreme Court House with dozens of advocates and representatives from the Rent Justice Coalition to take a stand against this lawsuit. We must do everything we can to protect this rent freeze.Â
