Tuesday, December 23, 2014    A police officer who responded to a Clairemont house fire Saturday shot and killed a badly wounded dog to end its suffering, while a firefighter battling the blaze from the roof partially fell through the structure and was taken to a hospital, authorities said.The fire was reported on Mt. Acadia Boulevard near Acworth Avenue just before noon, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. The bulk of the blaze was knocked down about 30 minutes later.

A San Diego police officer who arrived at the scene came upon a dog on fire and used his service weapon to "put the dog out of its misery," said fire spokesman Lee Swanson. Another dog, a puppy, was rescued in the backyard and given oxygen, fire officials said.

Meanwhile, a firefighter working on the roof partially fell through but was quickly extricated. He was taken to a hospital with burns along one side of his waist but not believed to be seriously injured.

Tuesday, December 23, 2014   Less than 24 hours after a deadly fire tore through a Delaware apartment building, a blaze broke out at another New Castle County apartment complex this time leaving three people hurt.
Sunday night’s fire on Butternut Court at the Valley Run Apartments in Claymont around 9:30 p.m. left 12 people from six separate families out of their homes and three people hurt.

A 79-year-old resident was taken to the hospital with a back injury she got while evacuating her apartment. A firefighter got a head injury while suppressing the fire, and a paramedic got an ankle injury while working at the scene. None of the injuries are considered life-threatening.
The American Red Cross helped the families forced out of their homes by the blaze.

The cause of the fire, which caused a portion of the building to collapse, remained under investigation Monday morning.

FIRE APPARATUS CRASH WILE RESPONDING IN LOUISIANA 

Monday, December 22, 2014   Two Lafayette (Louisiana) Firefighters were injured early Monday when their fire truck hit a utility pole in the 3900 block of Moss Street.
Firefighters were on their way to a reported fire on Morning Glory Square in the Meadows shortly before 0700 hours when the crash occurred, The firefighters received minor injuries. 
     

 

SMART CAR - DUMB DRIVER HITS FIRE TRUCK IN PORTLAND 

Monday, December 22, 2014    A Portland woman was arrested early Sunday morning in Clark County after she allegedly drove a Smart Car through a red light, collided with a fire truck and fled the scene.At about 3:15 a.m., a Vancouver Fire Department fire truck was traveling west on Northeast 119th Street through the intersection at 87th Avenue. The fire truck had the green light, but its driver noticed that a red 2013 Smart Car traveling north on 87th Avenue wasn’t stopping for its red light, said Clark County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Fred Neiman.

The driver of the fire truck slammed on the brakes but still hit the passenger side of the Smart Car as it drove through the intersection, Neiman said. The car ”spun out, stopped and immediately took off,” he said.

The woman soon pulled over to check out the damage to her vehicle, allowing the fire truck to catch up to her car. But once the fire truck reached her, the woman drove away again, Neiman said.

FF BURNED AT FL FATAL FIRE

Monday, December 22, 2014    A 26-year-old man who was inside a burning home on West 27th Street in northwest Jacksonville early Sunday morning died and a firefighter responding to the fire a suffered a minor burn to his face.
The fire broke out between 6 and 7 a.m. according to Jacksonville Fire-Rescue. When firefighters arrived, heavy smoke was showing, and neighbors say flames were shooting as high as 10 feet in the air.

Jacksonville Fire-Rescue said they pulled the victim from the home and tried to revive them, but efforts were unsuccessful.

At 7:20 a.m., Jacksonville Fire-Rescue said the situation was under control, but believe the home is a total loss. Crews were able to leave the scene around 10 a.m. The state fire marshal's office is investigating.

Neighbors and family members say the man who died was Marcus Cato. Family members are having a tough time dealing with the pain.

CHARLOTTE LADDER 32 - FLIPS FOR THE 2nd TIME IN 6 MONTHS 

Sunday, December 21, 2014    Charlotte. (North Carolina) Ladder 32 overturned last night but thankfully, the only in jury was the driver who has a hand injury. No one else was hurt. Ladder 32 was the company that overturned and caught fire this past summer-but this was a different shift. This truck was a reserve truck they have been using.

Initial reports are that a mechanical failure may have caused the driver to lose control while they were responding to a fire alarm activation around 0330 hours.

FATAL EMS CRASH IN CONNECTICUT 

Saturday, December 20, 2014   Reports are that an ambulance hit an SUV Saturday afternoon.Police say the 9-1-1 call came in at 1430 hours. One person has died, police confirm.No word on when road will reopen. No word of any other other injuries. State Police are on scene. LifeStar helicopter was called to the scene, then that call was canceled. Unknown yet the status of EMT's.
