Genesis Restaurant- Yorkville

I am tempted to be jaded here and say..well, another restaurant in a neighborhood that has plenty of  restaurants ( except, of course, compared to Hell's Kitchen, where the restaurants threaten to outnumber people)

Not bad reviews...some sour apple-type comments...people say it has " a middle aged crowd, compared to a lot of other nearby places" ( which I gather they mean cater to younger people)

Oh I really love this place!! Actually I came here by accident....my boyfriend and I were on our way to a different bar down the street but decided to come into Genesis on a whim. It was raining that afternoon, otherwise we would have sat in their cute outdoor area.

I liked that they have 2 menus, a "bar" menu, and a regular menu. Although if you sit at a table you can still order from the "bar" menu which has typical drunk snacks like mozzarella sticks and jalapeno poppers. Their lunch menu was pretty big, and lots of dishes had an Irish twist. Feeling pretty unadventurous we went for a cobb salad and burger. The portions were H.U.G.E. Really and truly. How many times do you hear someone say they couldn't finish their salad because it was so big and filling (and delicious!)?

Will definitely be back to munch and drink in their outside area. Thanks Genesis!

Came here for an impromptu meal. The place is pretty nice. There is seating at the bar, there are booths, there are some high tables that seat 2-3 people, and there is also outdoor seating. We sat at a high table near the large open doors/windows leading to the outdoor space. Given that there are large TVs with various sporting events, the place can get a bit rowdy. I am a huge lover of sports, but not a fan of intoxicated, overly loud/rowdy, antagonistic crowds.

I had the crab cake burger. It was surprisingly good. The crab cake patty came topped with guac, red onion, and tomato. The dish also came with a pickle and fries. For dessert I had some my friend's brownie with vanilla ice cream. Also quite tasty.

I gave this place 3 stars, it's really between 3 and 4. It's good, but it's nothing to get excited about. Will I come back?...Uhh, sure I guess.

Will not return to this place again. The food is pricey, the service is very very poor. For a Sun brunch, there was only one bar tender for both the bars, no waitress in sight. It took them 25 minutes after we were seated to take our orders, and what felt like forever to bring our food. Now, I am not impatient when it comes to food, I understand I am not the only one being served at the restaurant... but please, there is no way it can take for over an hour for us to be seated, ordered and get our food.

The food, by the way, was not very good either. Disappointing eggs Benedict and the Breakfast platter.

Will never return to this place - spend my time and money elsewhere.

Came here on a whim as the happy hour prices roped us in. We sat outside and it was nice and comfortable. The service wasn't anything to write home about but I wasn't unhappy with it either. The food was alright but I wish they would toast the buns of the burgers or something. Overall the food and service were okay but I wouldn't come back again because nothing about our experience stood out to us as being exceptional or above average. In fact, I'm pretty confident I can make a better burger. I guess you get what you pay for?

Nothing breathtaking, but a solid, generally friendly place to grab a drink or a decent meal, which is somewhat do a rarity in this neighborhood.

I freaking love the Genesis burger: blue cheese, CHORIZO, and frizzled onions!

Everything is tasty and well done- from the low brow burger to the more elaborate dishes. Everything comes out quickly. Reasonably priced for the neighborhood. Prompt, friendly, and accommodating service. ONCE my fries came out soggy... They promptly and cheerfully replaced them with a fresh batch.  Some cute booths- decent for an informal date.

This Irish pub is simply awesome!  Its got a great atmosphere in that its versitle.  You have a fully loaded bar with TVs for the drunks and nice seating areas for couples looking to sit down and eat.  Its got a very dark but smooth vibe to it and the food is pretty good.  Irish menu that hits the spot.

I highly recommend this place!  Enjoy!

If it's just not that good, why would anyone go back? I'll never know because there must be better places to eat a Sunday afternoon brunch in this neighborhood.

Notes: disappointing waffle, served with a maple flavored table syrup. Do normal people still consume table syrup? And, no one seemed truly impressed with the Irish breakfast platter, either.

I hope that Genesis will readily cease insulting the Irish with sub-par food.

Leaving Genesis behind was probably the hardest part of moving from the Upper East Side. Genesis burgers were ranked in the New York Times top ten burgers in New York, but I'm hard-pressed to find the other 9. The burger choices are varied and unique, not to mention they are enormous and very reasonably priced. I'm a fan of taking a friend, ordering two different burgers and trying half of each.
I've never had a complaint about my service there, the appetizers are just as good as the burgers, they have a good selection of beer on tap, and I've always left satisfied. Genesis definitely gets my stamp of approval.

I had a great experience at Genesis. Came on a holiday and just chilled out in the outdoor eating area out back. Didn't even feel like you were in the city

We really like this place -- it's a sports bar that feels very cozy and has that neighborhood feel to it. The burgers are delicious and the staff is very friendly. My husband wanted to watch a game, so we came here -- the staff was so nice, and didn't give us any trouble at all for staying for a while.

I eat/drink here pretty regularly. The best thing is that -- unlike most of the other Upper East Side bars, this place has a "middle aged" crowd. Therefore, it is a little more quiet (though it does have -- for my preferences -- too many TVs blaring too many sports programs); it's less of a pick-up scene; and if you have a conversation with another patron at the bar, that other person is unlikely to punctuate every phrase (and then some) with the word "like". Plus, the burgers are reasonably priced. It's a nice neighborhood place.

Eight if us went for lunch on Mother's Day.  We were looking for something simple, comfortable and easy. Genesis worked out well.  We had a nice large booth so wecould all talk to each other.  The staff was very friendly and helpful.  There was a choice of a brunch menu or a lunch menu so there was something for everyone.  We will surely return.
