This is about the end of excuses. It's about the end of
the perpetual apology and the idea that if we as women don't rally, pull
ourselves together and support one another we won't make it out alive.
What I have experienced is that women more often than not say "I'm
sorry" than any other phrase.
This suggests that simply shifting our language from
"epileptic" to "person with epilepsy" can alter the way others think
about those living with epilepsy. Employers, colleagues, teachers, and
peers may think of their friends differently if we all start referring
to "people with epilepsy" instead of "epileptics."
Essentially, there are two key takeaways from Facebook
changes that users can expect will only increase for the foreseeable
future: First, they are likely to see more high quality content that
tends to align better with their interests and behaviour. Second, it is
likely that paid branded content will increase as organic reach
decreases.
Transparency is ultimately a useful tool and a move in
the right direction: the more we know, the better. Of course, if you've
hired a portfolio manager who charges a monthly or quarterly inclusive
fee, you have already been enjoying full transparency, long before these
regulations came into affect.
Shelters and soup kitchens haven't demonstrated an
ability to provide long term solutions for the majority of chronically
homeless people. They should be an integral part of alleviating
homelessness, but they don't have the financial capacity to solve the
problem on their own. Moreover, it isn't fair to let City residents bear
the entire cost.
The so-called "War on Sugar" has ramped up recently. But
anyone with a child should have already been aware that sugar is a
drug. I clearly recall the joys of quaffing corner-store candies. Nobody
wants to be the parent that denies their child that pleasure. But, at
the very least, we need to be the parents who are saying "no" more
often.
Is dilution really the solution to pollution --
especially when it's nuclear waste that can stay radioactive for 100,000
years? A four-member expert group told a federal joint review panel it
is. The Great Lakes are already threatened by pollution, agricultural
runoff, invasive species, climate change and more. We can't afford to
add the risk of radioactive contamination to one of the world's largest
sources of fresh water.
After working for nearly 25 years with the loved ones of
people struggling with addiction, I'm still amazed by how many come to
their first session with me and say "I know I'm enabling, but..." Do you
have an addicted loved one in your life? Are you already aware that
you're doing things you probably shouldn't be doing, in the guise of
helping them?
Early morning on Friday, July 11, Gaza's Ark received a
direct hit by a shell fired from an Israeli navel vessel which badly
damaged the boat and started a fire on board. The civil defense and fire
brigades could not extinguish the fire quickly enough due to the
continuous shelling of the port that night and the boat was completely
destroyed.
The floor felt like solid concrete with no softness or
give. The room was long and narrow, angling to a point at the end. The
ceilings about 12 feet high. Suddenly, one of the sleeping men lying
below the bench pushed my blanket away.
Paisley is one of the most gorgeous decorative patterns
humans have ever devised. It is an incredible pattern to work with
because it is so full of possibilities; paisley can be done in any
scale, multi-coloured, monochrome, simple, or intricate, in a regular
and repeating or varied, irregular, and seemingly random pattern.
You may need personalized care, yet all of the options
are far too expensive from what you've heard. It is time to explore your
options, maintaining your independence and your bank account. You
deserve a comfortable retirement.

After a recent public talk, I shocked the crowd by
admitting that the Levi's jeans I was wearing that day "hadn't seen the
inside of a washing machine." Now, everywhere I go, the first thing
people say to me is "Oh, you're the guy who never washes his jeans!"
The United States has a nation-wide network that alerts
its citizens through just about every communications device possible
when natural or man-made disasters have hit, or are about to hit. Not us
lulled Canadians. Albertans can boast they're in pretty fair shape
after the establishment of the Alberta Emergency Alert, created after a
tornado swept through Edmonton in 1987, killing 27 people. Alberta is
ready. The rest of Canada isn't.
Yes, that's right: I wish sometimes that I was needier.
In recent months, I've come to a very blunt awareness about just how
independent I had become in my four years as a single person. Moreover, I
can reflect today and acknowledge just how much society places value on
that independence. Is our system flawed.
How many people have to die alone in a jail cell, with
only their troubled thoughts for company, before we demand an end to
grave human rights abuses happening in our prisons? Edward Snowshoe is
the latest casualty in a systemic practice that killed Ashley Smith, and
likely contributed to the death of Kinew James as well.

In the interest of saving lives from bad Hollywood
medicine, and also with the goal of providing a little bit of
entertainment, here are the top Hollywood medical malpractices that
drive me crazy.

Can you remember those long-ago summers, when the
cicadas buzzed in the trees, and there was nothing to do but lay on the
grass and contemplate existence? That's the feeling "Boyhood" evokes,
along with more than a few others.
How do we rally around and support a family who is
undoubtedly walking through their darkest days, on a journey that will
last a lifetime? I've never met Jennifer O'Brien. We don't navigate life
side-by-side the way I do with the sister-friend I spent tonight with,
and others in my circle.
Headlines in the mainstream media falsely portray an
equivalence of firepower between Israelis and Palestinians in Gaza. But
Israel's use of force greatly exceeds that of the Palestinians, and the
asymmetric warfare continues to escalate.
Plain and simple, there are certain questions that I get
a whole lot from clients. Some questions, however, just need to die
already. There are a lot of people who have no nutrition training, yet
somehow manage to burn nonsensical ideas into peoples' brains -- and
that's how the questions below are born.

For the past week I have instituted a
no-using-my-iPhone-at-night life policy. And even though it's only been
one week and I have fallen off the wagon twice, it's made a huge
difference.
