Crash, Inferno at Kansas Race Recalled
July 25--Those who were at the Kansas State Fairgrounds on that
sizzling hot day in late July 1974 can still see the images. The sounds
are still ringing in their ears.
It was the annual Hutchinson Grand Nationals auto races, and a capacity
crowd was on hand. What happened during the super-modified feature's
first lap became one dirt-track car racing's most infamous moments.
