Mass Graves, Jar Jar's Demise, Coffee Science and More
Death
was heavy on our minds this week — we explored the US's largest mass
grave and watched Jar Jar's life end in a never-before-seen twist. Oh,
and there's a Pandora for pornography now. Thanks, internet!
iPad Air Review: Bigger Gets So Much Better
Expand
It's hard to imagine that it's been only three years since the original iPad came out, since tabletswere a part of our daily world. Sure there were tablet computers before, but there weren't tabletsthe
way we know and use them today. And while the iPad changed personal
computing forever, it has remained mostly unchanged—especially on the
outside. That is, until now.
Nexus 5 Review: The Best Android Can Offer (Especially For the Price)
Expand
This
year, after having leaked more than a shot-up sieve, the long-awaited
Nexus 5 is here with Android 4.4 (KitKat) in tow. It's most definitely
one of the best phones you can buy, even if it doesn't quite meet its
inflated expectations.
Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 Review: Bigger Is Still Beautiful
Expand
We loved the Kindle Fire
HDX. It's faux-Android wrapped up in a budget body so beautiful you'll
learn to stop worrying and love the forked OS. Now its big brother, the
HDX 8.9, is here with the same flavor of lovely in a stretched-out
package.
What We Found at Hart Island, The Largest Mass Grave Site In the U.S.
Expand
It's
a place where few living New Yorkers have ever set foot, but nearly a
million dead ones reside: Hart Island, the United States' largest mass
grave, which has been closed to the public for 35 years. It is difficult
to visit and off-limits to photographers. But that may be about to
change, as a debate roils over the city's treatment of the unclaimed
dead. Never heard of Hart? You're not alone—and that's part of the
problem.
It may sound impossible but scientists have discovered a new body part
After
centuries of medical science I thought doctors knew every single bit of
the human body. Incredibly enough, ScienceDaily reports on the
discovery of a new body element called the anterolateral ligament, which
apparently has been hiding all this time in our knees.
Watch Jar-Jar getting killed in this deleted Star Wars scene
This
is one of the most satisfying things I've seen in a long time: watch
Jar-Jar Binks—the biggest assclown in the galaxy far far away—getting
killed in a deleted Star Wars scene that has been perfectly edited by fans.* Again. And again. So satisfying.
There's a Pandora for Porn Because of Course There Is
Expand
PornIQ,
a new website billing itself as the Pandora of streaming smut, has done
for self-love what a dozen other services have done for music. It was
only a matter of time.
The Chinese government is really really bad at Photoshop
What
was supposed to be a nice, heartwarming picture of four Chinese
government officials visiting an elderly woman in a sign of respect and
caring for the people and giving back and all that ended up being
another Photoshop nightmare for China where three giant men plus a
floating disappearing half man creepily hover over a miniature-sized old
woman. Man, someone needs to teach China how to use Photoshop.
An awesome guy made an insane Thor hammer that smashes everything
This
ridiculously awesome man made version of Thor's hammer Mjölnir is so
impressive that even our most Thor-like human Chris Hemsworth would have
trouble swinging it around. Though it's not quite the weight of 300
billion elephants, it's the closest thing to Mjölnir on Earth. That's
because it's made from 10 separate pieces of steel alloyed with chromium
and molybdenum. At its heaviest, it can weigh over 200 pounds.
The Scientifically Best Time to Drink Coffee
Expand
Ever
wonder what the best time is to drink your coffee? You probably know it
is not a good idea to drink part of your daily dose of caffeine in the
afternoon. Especially for those who have problems sleeping. But, do you
ever drink your coffee and feel like it just didn't work?
