Manchester Pub is likely misunderstood. In a neighborhood filled with lowbrow bars with "Congratulations you won the free raffle for free AYCD happy hour and half off for your friends" promotions, Manchester is overlooked or ignorantly stereotyped.  And honestly I don't blame the people who do so. Manchester's outside veneer does look like an other bar within the area.

However, if you carefully study the beer menu and events, you realize there's so much more depth to Manchester's character, like the leads in a Steinbeck novel. Manchester has been at the forefront of what I like to call the "good" beer revolution. They prominently stock craft beers such as Rogue, Flying Dog, Brooklyn and Abita. They host local breweries from Colorado or California for tasting sessions and feature them for months at a time. They have beer/food pairing dinners where you can explore different combinations you may have missed just drinking wine with youR Venison. This type of behavior is atypical of the standard Turtle Bay bar, which is why I believe people are missing out on a neighborhood gem.

I've never had chicken and waffles before, and I don't think anything is ever going to be better than this.  It was perfection.  The best waffles I've ever had, and chicken that was fried (yes, frying takes technique) to perfection.

Stopped in to watch the Wimbledon final, and the bartender was a nice guy, too.

Will be coming back for more chicken and waffles action soon.

A gastro-pub has to have consistently good food AND beer.  Manchester happens to have both, and a familiar, homey atmosphere.  Definitely check out the happy hour and lunch specials.

Lunch special: $7 burger (excellently prepared), $10 combo with beer.

Their waffles are the best I've ever had (I like my waffles slightly sweet and crunchy).

A little dumpy with rude satff.
However, the food is good if you don't mind a dirty place.
Beer is also pretty good with a large variety.
    Don't go for American sports.
If your intent is for beers and appetizers, it's the right place.

The only complain I have is the size of the place. Hard to get a good spot, but always great when you sit by the bar. I have seen some great Barcelona matches here...definitely a good soccer bar. Food is very good, great wings, good thick fries, friendly bartender. If you are a local, you have to stop by.

This really isn't a good place to fly solo.  The bar itself is pretty small, so if you can't get a seat, you're the dude standing next to the bar, and have to move every thirty seconds for people trying to get by.  There are some tables for groups, but it seems like they could do more to maximize the space here.

    2.5 stars.

I love this Bar, I really do. Me and my best stumbled here one day during our city adventures. I usually get a serious case of the munchies when i go out to drink and this Pub is the only one where I will go out for a serious meal. Their pulled pork sandwhiches are delicious as well as their burgers, but you really need to go for their Happy hour priced wings and the Sweet Potato Fries. Their Sweet potato fries are battered in tempura and they give you a honey dipping sauce and its not only unique but crave worthy too.

Its a very homely bar with very nice bartenders, I often ask them for recommendations and they love to experiment to fit your drinking needs. I usually like coming during the weekdays since its less crowded, the bar is a bit too small for crazy parties.

The only complaint is that the portion size can vary when its busy, i think they sometimes have a shortage of glasses that friday night i stepped in. Also Their fish and chips are a lil bland the one time i ordered.

I have been here a few times before so I expected a decent lunch and cold beer. Got the cold beer but the honey and buffalo chicken sandwiches were really dry; bread stale; the chicken and waffles were amazing, which I have had before.  the also needed to do something about the smell by the bathrooms.  So will I go back again? only for the chicken and waffles, cold beer specials, and hope I don't have to use the bathroom.  Sole waitress for several tables was great, hence extra star.

I figured when I went into this pub, I would get sports games, beers and wings. What surprised me was the GREAT food that's on the menu!

On my first visit I had wings and the Mac & Cheese~ amazing! On my second visit (after a stealthy workout) I had the cobb salad~ soooo good! I know, go into a pub and order a salad?!? Trust me, it's worth it!

The pub is small and you won't have that overcrowded feel of bars. Wooden tables and chair make up the decor (very pub style). And it's not just for the guys. I went with my  fiancé and it's girl-friendly (as long as you don't mind watching sports!).

Great food, great staff, totally recommend if you're in the mood!

    BOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This place would've been cool if it weren't for the bitchy bartender girl with the short black hair and black framed glasses. It was annoying to hear her exclaim to the other bartender girl how she 'really liked' a guy we were sitting next to and then exclaim 'I'm going to give him a free shot' which she did. It's not annoying that she gave him a free shot, I couldn't care less, but her interaction with that guy and her interaction with me and my guy was a complete 180.

All we got was attitude from her. When trying to order a beer she rudely exclaimed "can you give me a minute?!?" I'm sorry we interrupted you from eating the breakfast potatoes the cooks just brought to you, ya know the potatoes you were sharing with the other bartender and the patron you 'really liked' sitting next to us.

I'm not expecting free drinks at all...but I am expecting a bit of courtesy and politeness when you're in this type of profession.

Delicious.  Had the Loaded Grill Cheese with sharp cheddar and swiss, sautéed onions, jalapeños and tomatoes on thick sliced Brioche.  Bread-to-sandwich ratio was a little heavy BUT the perfect amount of jalapeños made the sandwich to-die for.  Best item: sweet potato fries BY FAR. Overall it is a fun, decently priced pub that is awesome to grab lunch or visit after hours.

    Not bad for Midtown!

Lots of long, wooden tables in a relatively small space.  Decent beer/wine selection.

Didn't try the food, but the tables/floors/etc. felt a bit too sticky/grungy for my taste.  Good place to go towards the end of the night if you find yourself in the area.

Manchester Pub has occasional beer dinners. It's a great concept. You buy a spot at a table, and they usher out a gourmet 5 course meal paired with various kinds of beer. I came for the 150th anniversary of Chimay, and we had asparagus with mustard viniagrette, hen's egg fried celeriac with eel aioli, chopped streak with limburger, and darjeeling butter cake. The first 4 courses each paired with a different kind of Chimay, and the last with Aquavit.

It was great tasting and everything ran without a hitch! Hooray Manchester Pub, for daring to be different!

Beer dinners representin'! The owners did it up last night for their Goose Island pairing dinner. The only thing not on the menu was goose itself (though we did have foie gras), but there was plenty of Goose flowing throughout the 5 courses: Sofie, Matilda, IPA, Pere Jacques, and (drumroll) Bourbon County Stout, which is sometimes hard to get in this town.

All of the food was great, though my favorite was the octopus on a bed of delicious gigante beans, stuffed grape leaf, and tomato pie. Kudos to the chef and to the bar for a great evening!

Another trek through Midtown and another pub I found.  I wish I was around for some of the dinner options, because after reading all of these reviews it sounds like Manchester does one hell of a job at preparing top-of-the-line pub style food.  Not that lunch was bad, it just wasn't as exciting as the other items I'm reading about.

The place is pretty sweet for a sports game, it's small but cozy and has that feeling when you walk in like "This is my man-cave".  The bartender is beyond friendly and the kitchen window is right next to the bar, making sure all the food is getting out quickly and allowing the patrons to watch the kitchen handle the food.

I ordered a Buffalo Chicken sandwich on a Brioche roll with a side of fries; it was pretty good.  Like I said before, nothing extraordinary but it tasted great and actually had thin-cut chicken on it with a spicy buffalo sauce.  I was happy to get a sandwich with some substance and creativty because I was expecting a few buffalo chicken tenders w/ some weak hot sauce and smothered in gallons of blue cheese (typical bar fare pretty much).  I took a picture of the sandwich on put it under their photos on their Yelp page so people could see exactlyt what I'm talking about.

Hopefully, I'll be back in this area at some point one night so I can try some of the outstanding dinner fare I keep reading about.

A few friends and I went to Manchester Pub to watch the Manchester United game recently, as we figured it would be a good place to do so and get some food while we were at it.  There are definitely more "pros" on my list about this place rather than "cons", so I'll start with the pros:

-The staff, when we were there, was very friendly and accommodating so that's a plus.

-The food was very good for bar food.  We ordered many different dishes between our group like the quesadillas, soft pretzels and wings for appetizers.  For main dishes I ordered the chicken and waffles (good but really really sweet), and another friend got the cheesesteak.  Everyone was very happy with their food.

-They have a decent selection of beers (regular and craft).

Now, we did have a good time here, but here's my one major con..a couple of people with us ordered a few shots.  The alcohol they chose wasn't anything particularly special, but we were absolutely shocked when we got the bill and each shot was $18 dollars.  Forgive me if I am completely naive here, as I do not frequent NYC very much, so maybe most bars price their shots out this high.....I don't know though I was really shocked.  $18 dollars for each separate shot?  In a regular sized shot glass, not a double or anything..and again, nothing crazy as far as the brand goes.  Needless to say that put a damper on our otherwise great time at the pub.  Just goes to show that you can't really assume the price of anything, so next time especially while in NYC we will make sure to ask the price prior to purchasing any alcohol.  Might sound petty but, when we're paying $6-7 dollars for beer (pretty standard) and food for like, $9-13 bucks you wouldn't expect the hard alcohol to be that high priced...

Anyways I would come back, but this time food and beer are the only things that will be on the agenda.   No more shots!

First visit this week, and I have to say - it held up nicely to the hype. :) Cozy, intimate space, with a lively atmosphere. I had a great time catching the Rangers game last week, and those amazing artichoke chips didn't hurt either.

With my work taking me to NYC weekly, I know I'll make many more visits.

    It's a footie bar!

Actually, Manchester Pub is a lot more than a sports bar. It's old school but also new school. While it's been open almost 20 years, it actually feels a lot older than that even. The bar is worn down, the lighting dim, the signed plastered on the wall and doors have a nice musty feel to them. But then go to the bar and there's some serious craft beer and ciders on tap. There are pub food pairings and the quality of the ingredients is actually high. Plus, lunch specials are in the $7-$10 range.

The regular to new person range seems to be about 4:1 and there's a reason. Manchester Pub is sure to offer up reliability around the clock.

I love Manchester and that is tough for me to say, as I am an Irishman. But seriously this place rocks. From the perfectly poured Guinness to the ice cold Brooklyn lager, this place has a plethora of brews to quench your thirst. I got the turkey burger with fries...er I mean chips. The ambiance of this pub in Midtown is perfect for an after work drink...but beware...by 7pm this place gets seriously busy and packed.

I have been dubbed the "Jukebox Nazi" by many of my friends, because one of the first things I do upon entering a bar is to check out their music selection. Manchester has one of the newer mp3 jukebox, in which you can choose from the thousands of songs in there or download one to listen to from their massive library (at an extra cost of course).
