Copper Chimney- Gramercy/Curry Hill

I noticed this places ages ago as one of the newer restaurants in the "Curry Hill" area

Mixed reviews, but I suggest you read them to see why the negatives. For instance one man said the food was fine but he didn't like the attitude of the server.

It takes a lot to impress Yelpers especially if they are from New York and dine out a lot

Last review here has what can be money saving tip about something called "Foursquare" if you know what that is

First off let me say I LOVE INDIAN FOOD. And what other better way to enjoy it then to indulge buffet style. For $10 they have buffet lunch with a very nice selection. The seating is more modern then the traditional Indian restaurants and this actually appeals to me. If I could eat here every day I would, BUT Indian fare is a bit on the rich and heavy side so its probably not the best practice. It looks as if they recently opened up a hookah lounge in here as well with Happy Hour specials. I will be back to try this out.

Been dining here for 5 years.

Its great food.  But the interior is fading.

Smelt like urine the other night, it was about 77 degrees inside. One waiter, they didnt provide the usual bits to snack on as starters. Providing less and charging more.

Its slowly getting worse.  You can find better.

Copper Chimney has a decent menu and could be a great place but after two visits I am confident I shall never return for a third. The staff leave a lot to be desired. They are inattentive to the needs of their patrons, and the overall attitude is very blasé.

My second visit was particularly disappointing. I took several friends for a late lunch and we were the only customers in the restaurant at the time. Yet it took a very long time for anyone to take our order. The staff seem to enjoy just hanging about. They could see us looking at them but they carried on regardless.

The waitress (you'll recognize her--she's the one who looks like she just got out of bed) completely blotched up our credit card payments charging me twice. It's a mistake anyone can make, but she didn't tell me, and that's REALLY unprofessional. I only discovered the error later when I checked my online banking. I telephoned the restaurant and spoke to the owner who was understanding, but irritatingly flippant. He said the waitress realized her mistake immediately and initiated a refund. The problem is that their refunds take an entire week to process, so I spent the rest of the week with several hundred dollars (yes, that's how much we spent!) less in my humble checking account.

I wanted so much to like Copper Chimney. As an Indian expat, it would have been perfect. But sadly, the staff and management are not professional at all. For a place this expensive they need to up their game.

I came here with some former co-workers that I used to work with. They recommended to this and I said "WHY NOT?!?". We caught the $10 buffet lunch. They had a few varieties but I just thought this place was okay.

    1) Chicken Tikka Marsala - Sweet and Creamy! Chicken was a bit dry though. They had about 3 other kinds of chicken dishes and all the sauces tasted almost the same at the end of the day.

    2) Saag Paneer with corn - not to my liking.

    3) Gulab Jamun - First time having it and it was really interesting. Very sweet though.

Staff was attentive and my naan basket and water were constantly refilled.

I work down the street from this restaurant and it's one of my favorite restaurants in the area. They give great portions, the staff is always really really nice, and they have great prices. Try the mango chicken or chicken saag it's amazing.

I used to walk by Copper Chimney all the time when I worked in the area lo those years ago. Last night, after a YEE, I decided to stop by for dinner. Scoutmob helped grease the wheels of decision-making on that one.

Copper Chimney marries Curry Hill culinary chops with Murry Hill aesthetics. Catering to a crowd of area couples, it has that chic modern look that draws people in for a casual-nice dinner (for those times when you need your saag paneer but Curry in a Hurry and the cab-driver buffets just won't set the right mood). There was even a cute little baby when we came in on Monday night. It was fairly quiet but not dead.

My gf didn't like the Mulligatawny as much as the last one she had from a place downtown (which was more creamy, like a bisque), but still liked it. My lamb sorba was spicy and savory. Her saag paneer was delicious, as was my goan curry. They're not afraid to use spice here, to complement the dish (rather than nuke it).

With the Scoutmob deal, our check was pretty absurd, but even without it the prices are very reasonable.

Checked out Copper Chimney's lunch buffet including tasty tandorri chicken, $10

Group of 10 of us. Attentive water refills.

Small Gripe:  Tip was automatically added to individual credit cards without disclosure causing some confusion.

Copper Chimney offers an amazing lunch buffet. This was my go-to Indian lunch during the week.

They change the menu daily, offering a good amount of entrees. I love the diverse dishes, especially since for two people the bill comes out to $23 w/ tax. You can easily come here for a quick lunch & make it out on time to get back to the office. The service can be kind of spotty but many people continue to chose this as their lunch spot.

I'm a fan for their garlic naan... It's the first place where we didn't have soggy and greasy naan!  Light, fluffy and crispy.

Their Chicken Tikka Masala was a solid dish with a decent portion, good flavors and  reasonable cost.  It's not the best version of this dish that I've had in the area, but we really couldn't pass up their awesome Scout Mob deal of 50% off your dine-in order.  We split one order and both of us left full and just the right amount of food.  The order comes with a side of basmati rice.  Add the garlic naan and it's a very enjoyable meal!

The decor is good, the service is quick and prompt.  I have nothing to complain about.  I will consider coming back again!

I've walked by Copper Chimney an innumerable amount of times by now, but I only finally went and had dinner here last week. It was a bit strange that it was completely empty (save for one or two other small parties) on a Thursday night, but there was space and I was hungry - so we ended up eating here. Service is pretty standard, and unlike some of the other Indian restaurants, the waiters and hostess are not overbearing, which was nice. The menu here is also pretty comprehensive as well - lots of different choices to choose from.

That said, the prices are very similar to the newer places in the neighborhood, and it's not really justified. I ordered the chicken methi, which is one of my favorite curries from Bhatti around the corner. I question whether or not this really should be classified as a curry - there really wasn't a lot of sauce; it was more of a thick marinade that coated the chicken more than anything. It also lacked the kick that the fenugreek should add to this dish, making the spices a bit muted. I also wasn't a fan of the chicken...while it was boneless, it did seem like there was still skin on the chicken, and it wasn't the best quality meat I've had elsewhere.

While rice is free here (a nice change from forking over $3 at all the new places), paying $14 for my disappointing curry makes it unlikely I'll come back. I may try it again, just to sample something else, but chicken-based curries are my staple when it comes to Indian food...so if it's not done well, I'm not likely to show back up.

Not very busy the 2 times I've gone for lunch.

9.95/pp all you can eat lunch.

    Quick on water refills.

IMO the food was good although I don't know if I've ever had authentic enough Indian food to be a critic.  So in my Asian-American Indian foodie opinion it was legit.  I think there are 16 "dishes" but a number of them are various sauces.  I tried everything and I really enjoyed it.

When was the last time you were initiated into eclectic Indian food in an avant-grade ambiance that would lave a lasting dining experience? Offering excellent Indian food that is moderately priced yet served in a fine casual dining setup.

At Copper Chimney for their $9.95 all you can eat 16-course lunch special ooooooo course.

Food was eh. No papar for the table. We were one of two tables in there and the service was very slow. Our waitress wouldn't write down our order but asked three times what we got.

Chicken tikka was quite tasty, with just the right amount and thickness to the sauce. Garlic naan was pretty good. Poor selection of chutney and additional spices.

Decent food - great, but not amazing.

I recommend the Saag Paneer and Chicken Chettinaad and the bread basket.

Of course, it comes with a serving of your attitude-laced-holier-than-thou Indian restaurant service.  Yes, the guy w the big hair and tight jeans, that's addressed to you.  Saying thank you or just being semi-polit shouldn't be so hard

came for the 10 dollar lunch buffet.

    tiki masala was dry.
sagg and all the other dishes were meh.
But the tandorri chicken was awesome.

I would come here for the lunch buffet and eat only the tandoori chicken =)

The guy waiting on the tables was good with refilling the waters and taking plates away when I was ready to go back up to the buffet.

    Left full and satisfied.

Not my favorite Indian place, but wanted to try based on the Yelp reviews. The food was just okay, but the Kashmiri Naan was the only standout item (that says something). Best I've had in a while. Just wish the actual dish was as tasty. The Malai Kofta was bland (didn't think that was possible).

The drinks (around $9) aren't cheap, but they're strong. The mango lassi was nothing to write home about.

Was looking forward to finishing my meal with some Falooda only to find out they didn't have 3 of the 9 items on the dessert menu (including Flaooda). So disappointed about that.  I want to go back and order something different just to give this place another shot, but that's at the expense of going to Bhojan or Tiffin Wallah (both are better imho than Copper Chimney).

Tip: You can save $15 off your bill by checking in on Foursquare when you are at the restaurant.
