Fire dept. rallies to find bone marrow donor for cancer-stricken medic/firefighter
Doctors say the 33-year-old firefighter's cancer is linked to his exposure to multiple toxins while fighting fires

HAMPTON, N.H. — A paramedic/firefighter diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is searching for a bone marrow transplant match to save his life.
Union Leader reported that Kyle Jameson, 33, was diagnosed in April after a routine physical exam. At the time, his wife was seven months pregnant with their first child.
Doctors believe the cancer is linked to his exposure to multiple toxins while fighting fires.
Jason Newman organized a bone marrow drive at the Hampton Fire Station. He said Jameson has been an inspiration at the department and hasn’t stopped smiling, laughing and joking.
"He's really showing us how to deal with a situation like this," Newman said.
About 160 people registered to donate bone marrow at the drive,Fosters reported.
"This might not work for me, but it might work for many other people across the country and, actually, across the world," Jameson said.
Hampton Fire collaborated with Be The Match for the drive. Newman said donating marrow is not as difficult as it used to be. Nowadays, 80 percent of donations can be taken through blood, and registering to become a donor is simple. Potential donors are only asked to swab the inside of their cheek.
