Van Gogh of the Day- Cafe Terrace at Night 1888

I have a particular fondness for this painting of 1888 mostly because it was one of the few pictures we had on our walls at home as a kid that really got to me. ( Most of the other Art we had was from a WW II friend of my father who had been to Alaska and got hung up on doing these rather gloomy landscapes --watercolors-- of scenes up there. And we had other very common pictures-- nothing bad- but not not particularly memorable.)

This painting, of course, is not "typical" Van Gogh and its depiction of the delights of society in town in the evening is warm and charming..
