New Television Shows Feature Boston EMS

Boston EMS goes in front of the cameras and in a Google Hangout

"Save My Life: Boston Trauma"
The producers of the critically-acclaimed “Hopkins, “Boston Med,” and “NY Med,” are premiering “Save My Life: Boston Trauma” tonight. The six-week series follows trauma cases from the actual scene to the trauma center.

During “Save My Life: Boston Trauma,” viewers will get you a close look at the trauma teams inside the EDs and ORs rooms of some of the nation’s most prestigious hospitals including:
  • Boston Medical Center

  • Massachusetts General and

  • Brigham and Women’s

  • Usually only ED and EMS crews witness the fast-paced, challenging, sad and often humorous happenings behind the secured doors of a trauma center. But, in this new series, one minute you’ll see a mother struggling with the news that her son has been critically wounded in a shooting, and, in the next scene you’ll watch doctors become a captive audience as their patient launches into an impromptu rap.

ABC was allowed unparalleled access to these three Boston Trauma Centers and went one step further than they did in “Hopkins” and “NY MED”, they gained access to film from the scene and to each trauma center with crews from Boston EMS.

This show focuses on the more serious, life-threatening emergencies and follows patients from the field right into the hospital. Most of the stories included in each episode will start with Boston EMS, either using dispatch audio or video footage. “Save My Life: Boston Trauma” Premieres tonight at 10:00 p.m. ET on ABC.

    Boston EMS
The ABC producers were so impressed with what they witnessed of the care and compassion of the Boston EMS crews as they filmed the “Save My Life: Boston Trauma” series that they approached Boston city officials and expressed interest in filming an additional five-week series that focuses on the men and women of Boston EMS as they respond to a mix of emergency calls.

“Boston EMS” will premiere on Saturday, July 25th and run every Saturday for five weeks. There will be ten, 30-minute shows total, with two shown at each week, back-to-back in a one-hour block. Each show will highlight one or two Boston EMS units, featuring multiple calls filmed over the course of the 10-weeks.

In “Boston EMS,” viewers will ride along with the men & women of the Boston EMS, one of America’s most seasoned groups of EMS responders as they respond throughout the City of Boston.

Many of the crews featured in the series were also among the responders that rushed into harm’s way that fateful day two years ago when runners and spectators set off two bombs at the Boston Marathon.

Treating the injured and ferrying the wounded to hospitals, the well-trained and dedicated crews of Boston EMS earned the respect of emergency responders all over the world for their fast response, treatment and transportation of gravely injured patients, and the gratitude of a shell-shocked and grief-stricken city with their cool-headed professionalism.

Viewers will meet some of the crews involved that terrible day as they answer new calls and respond to a daily dose of trauma and mayhem.

Executive producer Terence Wrong said recently, “Even for an experienced [production] team like ours, we were stunned by some of the heart-pounding medical miracles we saw performed.” “Boston EMS” premieres on Saturday, July 25th at 9:00 p.m ET on ABC.
