FDNY: Internal Battle Goes On

I am not  a reader of The Chief, nor am I especially involved with any members of the FDNY execept as an observer.

Interesting conflict going on here: Commissioner Nigro is condemning "leaks" to the press ...

This is obviously a rough and rather potentially tumultuous time for the FDNY.

I don't feel anyone questions the motives or the ability of Commissioner Nigro, who is another special hero of September 11 and its aftermath, and whose professional qualifications are not in question.

But I question his use of the word "stoolie" here, I think his anger is getting the better of him

I understand that anger, I feel, because their are a lot of people withing the FDNY who would block simple fairness in hiring and employment ( I am sick of all the harassment that goes on in this City, amongst and between all groups of people: Blacks against whites, whites against blacks, especially landlords against tenants)

A good number of FDNY firemen have to come into the 21st Century as far as fairness is concerned

I say this even though I don't like the idea of lowering the standards to become a FF for political reasons and "political correctness"

Diversity is great, but when you want someone to save you from a fire, it is not their diversity you are counting on but their ability

Well, I have been more or less aware all this was going on,but this article from the Chief reveals a lot to me

Nigro: Won’t Stand For Media Shaming By ‘Stoolie’ Firemen

Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro issued a department-wide order last week slamming those who leak firefighter information to the press as “bring[ing] dishonor to our family,” just after reminding them that diverse members were “all...equal here.”
The order, in which he promised to “investigate these improper releases of information and do all we can to identify those responsible,”
