This is a great story about local firefighters here in the Tri-Cities that GET IT! A few members of IAFF Local 1791 have taken it upon themselves to take the training to be able to volunteer at the Niswonger Children's Hospital in Johnson City. Since several of the members have received the training, they have started taking the apparatus by to visit with the children. The members typically stop by and visit with the children who are currently in the hospital. The apparatus is on display outside of the hospital for the children that are able to come out for a tour.

A Connecticut jury has ruled in favor of the Mystic Fire District in a civil suit filed by the owner of a house that was set on fire in 2008 by a volunteer firefighter. Gretchen Chipperini alleged that the negligence of the fire district’s leadership made the district liable for the actions of probationary firefighter William Celtruda who set the fire on July 25, 2008.
