  • ET deals: Sharp LC-70LE650U 70-inch smart TV for $1378 September 9, 2014 at 3:24 pm

4K may be here, and it is exciting, but let’s be honest — for most people, it’s going to be a long time before a 70-inch 4K TV sniffs a price considered “affordable.” More power to those who can afford it, but if you’re looking for a huge sweet HDTV to grace your living room today, this beautiful 1080p model from Sharp is on sale now at around a third the price of a similarly sized 4K TV.
  • Apple iWatch

Apple’s iPhone 6 event: Updated live blog and video stream September 9, 2014 at 2:44 pm

Later today, Apple will reveal its latest hardware for the world to see. The rumor mill is betting heavily that Cupertino will announce the long-awaited iWatch and larger iPhone models, but anything could happen. We’ll definitely see new hardware at the event, but you’d be wise to take all of these rumors with a grain of salt. Regardless of what Apple has lined up for us, video of the entire event is being streamed live, and I’ll be live blogging the whole time. Check back here at 1pm ET (10am PT, 5pm UTC), and be the first to see what Tim Cook has up his sleeves.
  • Apple iPhone 6 event stream on Windows desktop

How to watch Apple’s iPhone 6 event live stream on Windows and Android September 9, 2014 at 8:11 am

Later today, Apple will unveil the iPhone 6 at a special event in Cupertino, California. Somewhat unusually for Apple, it will be broadcasting a live video stream of the event — but, for reasons we still can’t fathom, Apple restricts the official feed to people watching on an iOS or OS X device. Fortunately, if you’re a Windows (or Android) user, we have a couple of solutions for watching live video of Apple’s event.
  • Fire Phone

Amazon’s Fire Phone fails to sell, company cuts price to 99 cents to stimulate demand September 9, 2014 at 7:06 am

Amazon’s new Kindle Phone hasn’t sold well at its previous price points — so Amazon is slashing $200 off the price to stimulate demand. It’s a good move, but will $450 still move the product compared to phones like Google’s Nexus 5?
  • iPhone 5S (left) vs. iPhone 6 (right)

iPhone 6 hardware specs and design: The final leaks and rumors rounded up (updated) September 8, 2014 at 5:17 pm

With its release date soon approaching, the usual bevy of iPhone 6 design and hardware leaks are flowing thick and fast. With the pressure on Apple to innovate in the mobile space, and Android (and Samsung) continuing to steal away market share, the iPhone 6 will need to be seriously impressive on multiple fronts — which could be difficult, considering this may be the first iPhone designed without help from Steve Jobs. As usual, there’s an utterly insane number of iPhone 6 hardware and design rumors, spanning everything from multiple screen sizes (up to 5.5 inches!) to close integration with an upcoming (and still unannounced) iWatch smartwatch.
  • google driverless car

How Google’s self-driving cars detect and avoid obstacles September 8, 2014 at 3:45 pm

Google’s driverless cars are bristling with sensors, but what do they all do? The patents hold the answers.
  • One Windows: Windows for all, Windows Phone, etc.

Will Windows 9, and all future Microsoft OSes, simply be called ‘Windows’? September 8, 2014 at 3:01 pm

There is an increasing amount of evidence that Microsoft is preparing to drop all of its different brands of Windows — Windows Phone, Windows 8, Windows 9, Windows RT — and simply call them all Windows. The idea would be that, in the mind of the consumer, Windows is just Windows, and that all of these different names and flavors are just confusing. Getting rid of all that complexity and returning to the old way — where Windows is synonymous with personal computing — would certainly be a coup for Microsoft.

  • Supermoon over New York City

The last of the summer supermoons: Watch out for tonight’s Super Harvest Moon September 8, 2014 at 12:40 pm

After a summer of sensational supermoons, it all culminates tonight with a huge supermoon that also happens to be this year’s harvest moon (the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox). Viewing conditions look like they’ll be good for most of Europe and North America, so do try to get outside around sunset today and look to the east for a rising supermoon near the horizon.
  • Tivo Mega DVR

The $5000 24TB TiVo Mega: The exorbitant price of never deleting a TV show ever again September 8, 2014 at 10:52 am

TiVo, answering the calls of the country’s seven most crazed TV addicts, has just unveiled the TiVo Mega — a massive 24-terabyte DVR with six separate tuners, capable of recording up to 26,000 hours (three years) of TV. TiVo Mega will be available in the first quarter of 2015, priced at a rather astronomical $5000.
