Facebook launched on 4 February 2004, in a dorm room at Harvard University as a way for students to connect with friends.
A decade later, the social media giant has more than 1.2 billion active users worldwide.
As the site celebrates its 10th birthday, the BBC's David Botti takes a look at the numbers to see how Facebook has changed its users' lives.
